Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits of competition and the need for cooperation, while also providing the author's own opinion. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive, with over-generalised examples that lack sufficient depth. For instance, the discussion regarding school children facing extreme anxiety or becoming 'phyco pateint' touches upon the negative aspects of competition, but it is under-developed and lacks sophistication in argumentation. Therefore, the response aligns best with a Band 6.0 descriptor, as all parts are addressed, but the development of ideas lacks thoroughness and precision.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a discernible paragraph structure, separating the introduction, body paragraphs on work and school, alternative perspectives, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. There is a heavy reliance on repetitive sentence starters and basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'On the one hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'Both point of view play a crucial role but i agree compettion is a fasinating thing...', which lacks smooth transitional flow. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical progression between sentences is frequently disrupted by grammatical issues and awkward phrasing, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and displays noticeable errors. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'fasinating', 'benefical', and 'philosophy', there are severe spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'compettion', 'sellery', 'childern', 'phyco pateint', 'ditroy', 'winer', and 'ride'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of word formation and spelling. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about work and school environments, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands, corresponding to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is very weak. There are frequent, persistent errors in subject-verb agreement ('Competition play', 'manager start', 'childern who have... teacher start'), missing articles ('in future and present', 'in a office'), and incorrect verb tenses. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and a lack of capitalization on the pronoun 'i'. These numerous errors frequently strain the reader's comprehension and mean that error-free sentences are the exception rather than the majority, placing this performance at a Band 4.0.
