Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses both views regarding competition and cooperation, and attempts to present a personal opinion in the introduction. However, the essay is severely under-length, containing only 160 words compared to the required minimum of 250 words. This incomplete development prevents the ideas from being fully explored. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off abruptly mid-sentence in the final paragraph. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a low band score under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, a body paragraph supporting competition, and an incomplete contrasting paragraph. Cohesive devices are occasionally used, such as 'Additionally' and 'In contrats', although there are spelling and mechanical errors in these connectors. Paragraphing is attempted, but the overall progression is abruptly halted due to the abrupt ending of the text. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of sufficient body content limits the coherence of the overall piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey simple ideas related to the topic, featuring words like 'competition', 'cooperate', and 'compatibility'. However, the range is limited, and there are frequent spelling errors such as 'eac h', 'opinon', 'shool', 'performane', 'approah', and 'contrats'. There is also a major punctuation error with spacing ('Additionaly ,'). The limitations in vocabulary range and spelling accuracy restrict the score to the lower bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The increasing number of people think that...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('individual should compete', 'Competition in daily life help') and capitalization errors ('i believe'). The response also contains major punctuation and formatting flaws, and because the essay is unfinished, the structural range cannot be fully demonstrated. Communication is somewhat hindered by these recurring mechanical and grammatical inaccuracies.
