Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address both views and provide an opinion, but it misunderstands the prompt by framing the topic as a national problem rather than a general philosophical discussion. The opening states, 'compettion has become a serious problem in my country,' which misinterprets the task. While the student mentions both competition and cooperation with some supporting examples such as school experiences and playing games, the ideas are heavily repetitive, under-developed, and lack clear logical progression. The position is stated rather than logically sustained throughout. According to the band descriptors, this falls under Band 4, as it responds to parts of the task minimally with limited and repetitive development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organisation of the text is severely lacking. The entire essay is written as a single, massive paragraph without proper paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the discussion of both views, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used repetitively and clumsily, such as the excessive use of 'Morever,' 'Furthermore,' and 'When I was in school.' The progression of ideas is disjointed, and referencing between sentences is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of argument. This corresponds to Band 4, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently and paragraphing is absent.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive throughout the response. Words such as 'competition,' 'problem,' 'school,' and 'cooperate' are repeated constantly without variation. There are numerous spelling errors including 'compettion,' 'eassy,' 'solution,' 'Morever,' 'hard working,' 'resturant,' 'nowdays,' and grammatical word-choice errors like 'waitors' and 'I weak in study.' The range of vocabulary is severely limited and inadequate for an academic task, meaning the response sits at Band 4, reflecting basic and repetitive vocabulary where errors often strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily restricted. The text consists mostly of simple sentences or poorly constructed compound sentences with frequent errors. Examples of severe grammatical inaccuracies include 'people in my country believe on competitions,' 'makes people hard work,' 'helps to students what is difficult for them,' and 'my friend cooperate with me.' Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas after introductory elements and incorrect spacing around commas and periods. Because errors are frequent, intrusive, and distort meaning in places, this performance meets the criteria for Band 4.
