Student answer (Band 5.0)

Most people have their opinion that racing in different stages of life is extra of the activity while others pursue to help out more instead of competing with each other. According to my perspective, I strongly believe to cooperate with other beings because when trying to help other in achieving their goals, it also motivate us. By doing the corporation, communication level improves. We can greatly engage with other. It builds the sense of responsibility and make out a better leadership qualities as well as the teamwork. On the other hand, when we try to engage other matters, people become addicted to it. Instead of using their own brain, they try to look for helps to other and become dependent. In contrast, a person who like to do competition can accomplish every task easily because of that of achieving in life something, but it creates a sense of jealousy or it tried to get everything. It become a reason to lack of harmony, companionship as well as teammate abilities. To put in nutshell, competition as well as corporation is the most important part to figure out how to spend life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to discuss both views regarding competition and cooperation and states a clear personal opinion in favor of cooperation. However, the development of ideas is limited due to the restricted word count of 190 words, which falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. The discussion on cooperation touches upon motivation, communication, and leadership, while the counter-argument about competition mentions efficiency alongside negative traits like jealousy. Because the response is under-length and lacks the fully extended arguments expected at higher bands, it is penalised in Task Achievement and aligns best with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, as it is presented as a single dense block of text, which significantly impairs the overall visual and logical structure. Although there are some basic cohesive devices used to signal transitions, such as On the other hand, In contrast, and To put in nutshell, their usage is sometimes awkward or inaccurate. For instance, the phrase 'To put in nutshell' is missing the necessary article 'a'. The logical progression between ideas is somewhat disjointed due to the lack of clear paragraph divisions, resulting in a performance that fits the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several awkward collocations and word choices. Examples include 'racing in different stages of life' instead of competition, 'extra of the activity', and 'doing the corporation' instead of cooperation. The writer also uses 'helps' as a noun incorrectly in 'look for helps to other'. While there are some attempts to use less common words like 'companionship' and 'harmony', frequent inaccuracies in word formation and choice restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and prone to frequent grammatical errors. Examples of errors include 'Most people have their opinion that...', 'when trying to help other in achieving', 'make out a better leadership qualities', and 'a person who like to do competition'. Subject-verb agreement issues and missing articles are common throughout the text. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and place the grammar at a Band 5.0 level.
