Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding competition and cooperation, presenting some relevant ideas such as personal drive, skill development, and the potential negative impacts on relationships. However, the essay is incomplete, stopping abruptly in the final paragraph due to failing to meet the minimum word count of 250 words, as the response contains only 228 words. Additionally, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the discussion of cooperation, and the writer's personal opinion is poorly articulated in the introduction and lacks clear expansion. Consequently, these shortcomings in length and idea development place this aspect of the writing at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an attempted conclusion, though the essay cuts off mid-sentence. Paragraphing is initiated correctly, but the overall progression of ideas is hindered by abrupt shifts and the incomplete final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used simply, with transitional markers like 'One of the main reason' and 'On the other hand', but referencing and collocation in linking elements can be faulty or repetitive. While the text maintains some overall coherence, the mechanical usage and incomplete ending restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it features frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'diferent' instead of 'different', 'agrue' instead of 'argue', 'todays' instead of 'today's', 'cooprate', 'eassy', 'disscuss', 'casues', 'stant', 'mentallty', 'sucess', 'achive', 'comepit', 'palyers', 'regardingly', 'over come', 'Addintionally', 'workpalce', 'loss' instead of 'lose', 'situtaion', 'togather', and 'For instance'. These lexical errors and a limited range of less common vocabulary restrict the precision of the argument, though meaning is usually recoverable, aligning with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammatical structures is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'Some agrue competing is a good act... as other think', 'In this eassy will disscuss', 'One of the main reason for an individual is he or she wants', 'a child who like to play sports', and 'employees want to perform hard'. Punctuation and sentence boundary errors also occur, such as sentence fragments and run-on structures. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5.0 level of grammatical performance.
