Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation across different spheres like work and school, and attempts to give an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For instance, the argument that school competition prevents negative future perspectives is underdeveloped and hard to follow. While the writer covers the main parts of the task, the ideas lack sufficient depth and extension, aligning best with a Band 5 or 6 descriptor. Because the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack rigorous support, a Band 5.5 is appropriate for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for work and school, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence connections. For example, the sentence starting with 'If students would not be compitent enough...' introduces a disjointed flow that hinders readability. Cohesive devices are mechanically used or inaccurate ('Moreover', 'On the other hand'), and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'this cone would highly interrupt them'. This reflects the characteristics of Band 5, where organisation is present but overall progression is flawed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate basic ideas, but it is marred by frequent spelling errors ('loosing' for losing, 'compaired' for compared, 'compitent' for competent, 'primery' for primary, 'nurtering' for nurturing, 'peacefull' for peaceful) and inappropriate word choices ('personal grooming' instead of personal development). While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary, the high density of lexical errors and misspellings strains the reader and restricts the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on conditional and simple sentence forms that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in tense, agreement, and prepositions, such as 'potential only accounted for' (missing passive auxiliary), 'proof your self that you are best from others', and repetitive misuse of modal/conditional structures ('If students would not be...'). These frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, fitting closely with the Band 5 descriptors.
