Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people argue that competition at work, at school and in daily life is benificial thing. While others think that we shhold try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other. I partially agree with this statement and provide my own views on this.

On the one hand, Individuals get judged by the society and comminity by their achievements. The person who is well settled and earning good money in thier life society thinks that he is good person. Individuals gets love and respect by his wealth and power. For example, In school the student who is able to achieve good score in his test cosequently he will be the loved one for his teachers. As a result, ever students starts chasing good marks rather then knowing his ability and intrest.

On the other hand, People should think about their own abilities and intrest rather then competiting everyone. Some pupil are good in singing while other could be good in academics. So as concerning about his own capability learners should work on regarding their passion instead of overtaking blindly. For instance, Sis Isac Newton was very poor on his study but his passion about the gravity made him great Scientist. Therefore, I belive that we should work on our intrest and skill rather than chasing someone others.

In conclusion, several people are trying to make impression toward the society by their achivements, while some of them working on his own hobbies and skills to get sucess in their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation, and the writer provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, which aligns with Band 6. For example, the arguments regarding societal pressure and individual passion are introduced but lack deeper elaboration and are hindered by surface-level examples. The example of Isaac Newton ('Sis Isac Newton') is historically inaccurate and poorly integrated, detracting from the overall development. Nevertheless, the main thrust of the prompt is addressed, and a clear position is maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall coherent arrangement. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two views. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, characteristic of a Band 5 or 6 response. For instance, transitional phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are utilized, but referencing within sentences is often unclear, such as the pronoun shifts between singular and plural forms (e.g., 'Individuals get judged... The person... society thinks that he'). Furthermore, repetitive sentence openings and cohesive ties limit the logical flow and progression between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'consequently', 'capability', and 'passion'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors that permeate the text, such as 'benificial' instead of beneficial, 'shhold' instead of should, 'comminity' instead of community, 'competiting' instead of competing, and 'intrest' instead of interest. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the lexical score from reaching Band 6.0, placing it firmly at a Band 5.0 level due to noticeable inaccuracies in spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'Individuals get judged by the society', 'student who is able to achieve good score', 'as concerning about his own capability'). There are also punctuation and capitalization issues throughout. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reveal that complex sentences are often faulty when attempted, which corresponds directly to the descriptors for Band 5.0.
