Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most of the people in the society has a thought that competing at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing while the others think that cooperation is good. According to my opinion we should follow both aspects while working or studing or engaging in activities of daily life. Because geneous people will not build without competition. On the other hand, the effective product build with a cooperation.

Nowadays, we can see there is a huge competition at working environment, educational settings and in our day to day life. When it comes to the working environment, the competition is essential for the career development. The most competitive persons can reprasent the higher positions. On the other hand, at a school environment, we need to compete with other students to get higher marks and resarve a place at a high ranking university. Furthermore, in our usual days, we need to face competitions such as selecting a partner. As an example, the University of Melbourne stated that, they have higher number of students from high schools with competitive curriculum.

On the other hand, competition is not enough for a good future. Without proper cooperation, the stress level get high while working or studying. Group activities are essential part at schools and most popular companies. With proper communication and cooperation, people can exchange their ideas and can learn about new things. It helps to make a good product and it makes work more efficient. As an example, in a hospital setting, it is not possible to recover a patient from doctor alone. It needs a good cooperation within the multidesciplinary team.

In conclusion, the competition and cooperation both are need to our lives. If we can balance these two within our lives, we can make a successful future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the views that competition is good and that cooperation is better, while also providing the student's own opinion that both aspects are needed. The position is clear throughout the essay. Main ideas are presented and supported with examples, such as reference to the University of Melbourne and hospital multidisciplinary teams. However, some ideas could have been further extended and developed to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on career development and higher positions remains somewhat basic. Overall, the requirements of the prompt are satisfactorily covered, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, some cohesive links feel a bit mechanical or are slightly misused, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'geneous people will not build without competition' in the introduction. Progression is generally logical, but transitions between sentences occasionally feel abrupt. This places the response comfortably in Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'career development', 'multidisciplinary team', and 'educational settings'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'geneous people' (presumably meaning geniuses), 'working environment' used instead of 'workplace', 'effective product build with a cooperation', and spelling errors like 'studing', 'reprasent', and 'resarve'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with some inaccuracy. These errors do not impede communication, matching the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the people in the society has', 'stress level get high'), missing articles ('from doctor alone', 'needs a good cooperation'), and awkward phrasing ('competition and cooperation both are need to our lives'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede overall communication, fulfilling the criteria for Band 5.5 to 6.0.
