Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

These days incresing number of people can make their choice and suggest their opinion. Many indivitual believe that competition at job, at academy and in daily routine is a great thing. Others think that we should try to focus on working together and building shared success instead of rivaling one another. Prior to my stance, both the viewpoints would be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs with valid reason and appropriate examples.

Discussing the former view, believe that, people also participate on different activities moreover improve their knowledge that was great idea and they think our view point and also improvement. As example, when students and worker did thier own work and after they describe that and build mind. As a result when they alone their difficult situation they build on their standard therefor they stand for every situation.

However, prroponents have their own opinion. To begin with, people should do team work and focus on their work and when they might mistakes so people can change their mistake. When people challnging our thought we could more improve rather than we can work in our space. That's why that was no idea as a result we can handle every situation and own thought process. We can understand every thing easily

To sum up and offer my position, i support later view. Because when work alone we got peacefull and own space that time we improve our knowledge whereas we can work in group In addition people challanging our though and find our mistakes and they can describe how to we think to other viewpoint so impprove our through process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt by discussing both the view that competition is beneficial and the view that cooperation is preferable, while also stating a personal opinion. However, the ideas are poorly developed and lack clarity. For example, sentences such as 'people also participate on different activities moreover improve their knowledge that was great idea' are difficult to follow and lack extension. The writer's position is stated—supporting cooperation—but the supporting arguments are muddled and repetitive. While the prompt is partially addressed, the overall development falls short of higher band requirements due to limited and unclear explanations. Consequently, this performance aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors, where ideas remain underdeveloped and the position is obscured by imprecise expression.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. However, the overall logical progression is weak. Cohesive devices are frequently misused, forced, or awkward, such as 'Prior to my stance' at the end of the introduction or 'prroponents have their own opinion' introducing the second body paragraph. Referencing is often unclear, leaving the reader confused about the subject of pronouns like 'they' or 'it'. Furthermore, logical transitions between sentences are frequently absent, causing the arguments to feel disjointed. Overall, the organizational structure displays some basic planning, but the mechanical and inaccurate use of cohesive devices places this response within the Band 4 to 5 range, best represented by a score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and basic. The student relies heavily on repetitive vocabulary such as 'work', 'people', 'situation', and 'idea'. There are numerous spelling and word-formation errors throughout the text, including 'incresing', 'indivitual', 'challnging', and 'impprove'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary often result in unnatural collocation or incorrect word forms, such as 'build mind' or 'own thought process'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic topic about work and study, the frequent errors and restricted range prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, making Band 4.5 or 5.0 appropriate. Given that communication is partially hindered by lexical limitations, a score of 5.0 reflects the appropriate tier.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but these attempts are frequently faulty and obscure meaning. Grammatical errors are pervasive throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'increasing number of people can make... and suggest'), tense inconsistencies, and missing articles or prepositions (e.g., 'when students and worker did thier own work'). Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and comma splices dampening clarity, as seen in 'That's why that was no idea as a result we can handle every situation and own thought process.' The frequency of errors causes significant difficulty for the reader, which aligns with the official Band 4 descriptors for grammar.
