Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that competition is beneficial and the view that cooperation is preferable, while also stating a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, as seen when the student writes that 'Competition can surely assist individuals to increase productivity by pushing themselfs beyond their limit.' However, some supporting points are slightly underdeveloped and prone to over-generalisation, such as the claim that competition at school leads to pupils becoming 'creative in multiple fields which subsequently leads to brighter future.' The position is maintained throughout the essay, fitting well within the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing both sides and concluding with a personal stance. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion,' though referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Competition can... Similarly...'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas into distinct logical blocks, satisfying the requirements of a Band 6 performance.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and topic-specific items such as 'productivity,' 'reputation,' and 'cooperation.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'competitve' instead of competitive, 'usefull' instead of useful, 'compitition' instead of competition, and 'irretating' instead of irritating. Additionally, collocation and grammatical forms of words show occasional inaccuracy, such as 'competition have become.' These errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, for instance using subordinate clauses with 'although it is subject to the willingness' and 'people who failed to achieve success.' However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('competition have become'), pronoun errors ('pushing themselfs'), missing articles ('at educational centers'), and awkward phrasing ('is has considerable demerits too'). While these errors are noticeable, the meaning remains clear and communication is rarely impeded, which aligns with the criteria for Band 6.
