Student answer (Band 5.0)

Few individuals believe that competition at work, at educational institutes and in routine life is beneficial. But others argue that we should attempt to cooperate more, meanwhile competing each other. This essay will not only elaborate on my viewpoint but also provide relevants example to support it.

To commerence with, one of the most significant reason is that comparison with other citizens. This can be attributed to the fact that Most people compare themselves with others because they tend to judge their own achievements against those of other people. In this reason, they disturbed form their own goal. Moreover, by comparision with their rival as a outcome they lose their focus. Furthermore, they are not able to achieve the distination, which one they have already thought about them.

On the other hand, another crucial factor is that individuals believe that focus on other people is not much safe meanwhile, if they are improving their ability nor proving the people is much better. Moreover, people believe that we should attempt to Collaborate more as well as possible and do not compare youself with other. For instance: if we cooperate with people and do not compare yourself with others, then we definately succeed in your life.

From my perspective, we should focus on their own because in the way, you can face plenty of hurrdles in your life. If you face challenges in routine then you will become more confident in life.

In conclusion, althrough some may argue that we should compare youself with other. However, others argue that we should not compare yourself with other. But I strongly believe that we should focus on yourself rather than other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation, and the student presents a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear due to language barriers. For instance, the discussion around how comparison distracts from goals in the second paragraph is repetitive and lacks fully articulated supporting arguments or concrete examples. The prompt asks to discuss both views and give an opinion, which the writer attempts, but the execution remains superficial. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and the conclusion largely reiterates previous confused statements rather than synthesising the arguments. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, aligning with the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall progression of ideas is difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'To commerence with' and 'meanwhile competing each other'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is weak. For example, the second paragraph bundles several fragmented thoughts about comparison together without clear signposting or logical progression, leading to confusion for the reader. Referencing is frequently unclear, notably with pronouns like 'they' and 'them' having ambiguous antecedents. These organizational and cohesive shortcomings place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent lexical errors that strain the reader's understanding. Examples of awkward word choice and collocation include 'routine life' instead of 'daily life', 'educational institutes' used awkwardly, and phrases like 'distination' (destination) and 'hurrdles' (hurdles). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'cooperate' and 'collaborate', but struggles with accurate collocation and word formation, writing 'competing each other' instead of 'competing against each other'. Due to the limited range and noticeable errors that cause difficulty, the response meets the criteria for Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.0 based on positive marking for minimal adequacy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatically, the essay exhibits a very limited range of structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'one of the most significant reason is that comparison', 'focus on other people is not much safe', and 'compare youself with other'. Punctuation is also problematic, and sentence structures often break down, impeding clear communication. While simple sentences occasionally appear correct, the high frequency of grammatical errors across complex formulations means the performance aligns with Band 4.0 descriptors.
