Student answer (Band 5.0)

A number of people believes competition in daily life such as at school or work is a good think, while others think instead of being competitive with each other we should try to be more cooperative. From my perspective, being competitive with people around us help ourselves to grow more.

On the one hand, those people who are comparative in daily life try develop their skills and knowledge further. They usually try to compete with the person they think as a winner and reach on their position. For example, an average student to thinks their classmate as a competition studies harder to achieve more mark on exam than others. For instance, a employee who is competitive usually does twice of hardwork compare his colleagues. In my opinion, being compertitive is benefial if it is done right.

On the other hand, human are social being. From the school tasks to office work projects we have to do everything in a team. Teamwork helps us to combine our ideas are solutions that are far difficult to do in solo projects. Being cooperative also save energy and time. For instance, in a group of three people for a task works in different sections. Such as, one person handles managment, another presentatin and the other one distribution in work. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the views on competition and cooperation, and the writer provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the task achievement is heavily constrained by two factors. First, the response is incomplete and trails off abruptly at the end ('All though it is a good habit'). Second, it fails the mandatory word count requirement, containing only 222 words instead of the minimum 250. Because the text is under-length, the development of ideas remains limited and the conclusion is missing entirely, which prevents the essay from reaching higher band scores. Ideas such as comparing a student or an employee are relevant but remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some basic organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, the view supporting competition, and the view supporting cooperation. Transitional markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are employed to guide the reader. However, coherence is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, referencing errors, and the abrupt ending of the text without a concluding paragraph. Furthermore, the progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and incomplete thoughts at the very end of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student displays a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'cooperative', 'competitive', 'management', and 'presentation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'good think' instead of 'good thing', 'comparative' instead of 'competitive', 'hardwork' instead of 'hard work', 'compertitive' instead of 'competitive', 'benefial' instead of 'beneficial', and 'presentatin' instead of 'presentation'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the writer from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like framing 'if it is done right' and relative clauses. Nevertheless, grammatical control is weak with frequent errors that impede clarity. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'A number of people believes' (subject-verb agreement error), 'reach on their position' (incorrect preposition), 'an average student to thinks' (unnecessary infinitive particle), 'achieve more mark' (pluralization error), 'a employee' (article error), and 'human are social being' (plural/singular agreement error). These frequent errors place the response firmly in the lower-middle band.
