Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the views that competition is good and that cooperation should be preferred, and the student provides their own opinion. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies heavily on broad personal generalisations rather than fully extended arguments. For instance, the discussion on competition in the author's own life as a student in mathematics is relevant, but the elaboration remains somewhat disjointed. Similarly, the points regarding cooperation are stated rather than deeply explored. While the task is adequately addressed, the overall depth of exploration aligns best with Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall cohesion suffer from significant mechanical faults and run-on sentences. Many sentences are extremely long and strung together with basic connectors or commas, such as the opening sentence: 'Nowadays, our university is filled with skilled and performed people and with porgression of some phenomenons such as technology...'. Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct sections for the introduction, views, and conclusion, but transitional phrases are awkward or misused, such as 'For explanation' and 'In the other side'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical nature of the cohesion reduces the overall clarity of progression, placing this performance at a Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used demonstrates an attempt to incorporate less common items, such as 'phenomenon', 'competitivity', 'solidarity', and 'prestigious'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, form, and spelling throughout the text, including 'porgression' instead of progression, 'braindraining' instead of brain drain, 'apporpriate' instead of appropriate, 'analys' instead of analysis, 'mesures' instead of measures, and 'circomstances' instead of circumstances. These lexical slips and inappropriate word formations, such as using 'competitivity' instead of competitiveness, occasionally impede communication and restrict the score to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a very limited range of accurate sentence structures. The vast majority of sentences are long, convoluted run-on structures plagued by basic grammatical errors, punctuation flaws, and incorrect verb tenses. For example, clauses are improperly linked, as seen in 'cooperation between humans is either considered a significant pheonomenon for work culture and well being , it most likely stimulate solidarity...'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'im student' and 'results a prstegious and creative ideas'. Because complex sentences are attempted but frequently faulty, and errors are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar aligns with Band 5.
