Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the views on competition and cooperation, while also presenting a clear personal opinion. However, the ideas lack full development and depth, as seen in the brief and somewhat confusing elaboration on real-life competitions, such as 'business, artist, and architects, when they should some nurvous'. Additionally, the word count requirement of 250 words is not met, with the response falling slightly short at 242 words. This under-length impacts the overall completeness of the task, capping the score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay is generally coherent and follows a logical four-paragraph structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are correctly deployed to signal shifts in perspective. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always clear, as demonstrated by sentences like 'individuals work together and create a any kind of task more entertainment and convienent.' Paragraphing is used appropriately, but overall progression is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical linking.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'productivity', 'colleagues' (implied), and 'long-term collective success'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'Comoetition', 'opionin', 'cooperate' instead of cooperation, 'carrer', 'nurvous', 'comapatiters', 'Exsessive', 'afftet', and 'mantel health'. These errors show limited control over word formation and collocation, though communication is generally maintained despite the frequent inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Although competition is essential, cooperation is more beneficial for achieving long-term goals.' However, the writing contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms, article usage, and agreement, as seen in 'if good thing', 'they shoud be work together', 'comate', 'employee' instead of employees, and 'create a any kind of task'. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, and errors in basic grammar and punctuation cause some difficulty for the reader.
