Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people believe that competition at work environment, at education systems and is day to day life is a good thing. In contrast, others think that the cooperation in th work is more beneficial than competing against each other. In my opinion, I think both aspects need for be a succeful person. Because a talented person is not made without competition. On the other hand, a good product is not made without cooperation.
Firstly, the competing with the peers at work station and at school help us to improve our skills. Because without competition we can not secure the higher positions at work. Moreover, the competion is necessary at the high school to get a chance in a higher ranking universities. As an example, the times news paper published that the higher number of students were selected to the top universities were from highly competitive high schools.
Secondly, the team work and collaboration among team members are necessary to produce a good product. By coorperation, we can learn new things and can finish the given work within a small time frame. Furthermore, each people in a group may specialized for one thing. If we can collect those specializations together in a proper way, it helps to make the final product more success. As an example, a doctor can not treats a patient in the intensive care unit at a hospital by his own without the help of the other healthcare professional. They need multidysciplinary approach to cure patient.
In conclusion, the competition is a must thing to made a person with higher levels of skills. Moreover, while working we need to cooperate with the other people to enhance the quality of work. If we can follow both these aspects accordingly, we can become a successful person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that competition is beneficial and the view that cooperation is preferable, while also providing a clear personal position throughout. In the introduction, the writer states that both aspects are needed to become a successful person. Ideas are extended and supported, such as the use of high school competitiveness and the medical multidisciplinary team example. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize, and the development could be slightly more refined. Overall, the task is well covered, aligning closely with the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments, with Body Paragraph 1 focusing on competition and Body Paragraph 2 focusing on cooperation. Cohesive devices are utilized, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing and linking mechanisms feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Because without competition we can not secure...'. Despite these minor flaws in cohesion and referencing, the overall arrangement remains coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common items such as 'multidysciplinary approach' (despite the spelling slip) and 'time frame'. There are several noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'work environment' instead of 'the workplace', 'in th work', and 'each people' instead of 'each person'. However, these lexical errors do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the essay. Spelling mistakes like 'succeful' and 'competion' also occur, placing the lexical performance solidly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts complex structures using dependent clauses and conjunctions, but these attempts often contain grammatical errors, such as fragment sentences starting with 'Because' ('Because without competition we can not secure...') and subject-verb agreement issues ('each people in a group may specialized'). Punctuation and article usage are also occasionally faulty, as seen in 'the times news paper published that the higher number of students...'. While these errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score, they rarely impede overall communication.
