Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on competition and cooperation and states a personal opinion. However, the task achievement is hindered significantly by the word count falling below the 250-word minimum, as it contains only 222 words. Consequently, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed. For instance, while the student mentions that competition builds confidence and teamwork enhances time management, these arguments are not fully extended with robust examples. Furthermore, the position in the introduction includes contradictory phrasing ('Although competition builds students more confident, however, I believe...'), which affects clarity. Due to the under-length penalty and limited idea development, this response fits the Band 5 profile.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a basic structural layout. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence connections, such as 'That's why, how I believe teamwork can build...' and 'For instance, how teamwork can win the title.' Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often inappropriately, as seen in the misuse of 'Although... however' within a single sentence in the introduction. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion of ideas is weak, leading to a disjointed reading experience that aligns with Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited, basic vocabulary range with noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'challenges within children at school', 'teamwork are more convenient in the life', and 'multinational tasks'. There are also frequent awkward phrasings, such as 'compete every hard work' and 'want to challenges extra hard problems'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the general topic of competition and cooperation, the frequent errors and restricted lexical variety place this firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are constant subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'teamwork are more convenient' and 'challenges can people encourage'. Other major grammatical errors include 'That confidence made children to perform in big stages' and 'teamwork can enhance people to people how to communicate'. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in several places, meeting the criteria for a Band 4.5, which rounds to Band 5.
