Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the views on competition and cooperation and providing a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack sufficient extension. For instance, the argument in the second paragraph regarding how competition helps individuals identify mistakes is stated rather than fully explained with specific examples. The position is clear throughout the essay, meeting the requirements of this level, though deeper elaboration and more thoroughly supported arguments would be needed to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing different views, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in repetitive transitional phrases like 'To elaborate it' and 'the prominent reason is that, calloborate is more crucial'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in sentences like 'Hence, this the main reason that competition at work'. While the organizational structure is apparent, smoother and more varied cohesive devices would elevate the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'prominent reason' and 'plethora of skills'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader or impede smooth communication. Examples include 'competition' used instead of 'competitive environment', 'calloborate' instead of 'collaboration', and 'inhance' instead of 'enhance'. Additionally, awkward collocations like 'totally finish the feelings of jealousy' restrict the lexical score to this level, as greater precision and accuracy are required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional sentences and subordinate clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles ('in every thing'), incorrect verb forms ('humans will known'), tense inconsistencies, and punctuation lapses like unnecessary spaces before commas ('whereas ,'). Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough across different sentence patterns to prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band.
