Student answer (Band 5.0)

THERE IS NO DOUGHT THAT COMPITITION IS INCREASING REPIDLY. MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT COMPITITION IN ANY FILD IS VERY IMPORTANT AND BENIFICIAL . WHERAS OTHER ARGUE THAT IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO COMPETE WITH EACH OTHERS. THIS ESSAY WILL EXPLAIN BOTH VIEWS ALONG WITH MY OPINION.

ON THE ONE HAND, TAKING PERT IN COMPITITTION HAVE A LOT OF BENIFITS TO INDIVIDUALS . FIRST AND THE FOREMOST ANDVANTAGE IS THAT IT BUILD CONFIDACE IN PEOPLE. ALTHOUGH ID ENCOURAGE TO EVERY ONE TO WORK HARD. THEREFORE THEY CAN FULFILL THEIR DREAMS AND NEEDS. IN ADDITION, IT ALSO HELPS STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES TO IMPROVE THEIR PERFORMANCE. FOR EXAMPLE, BECAUSE OF THE HARD COMPITITION MANY STUDENTS STUDIED VERY HARD AND SUCCED IN THEIR LIFE.

ON THE OTHER HAND, IT HAS ALSO SOME DRAWBACKS FOR INDIVIDUALS. MAJOR REASON IS THAT IT CAUSE STRESSFUL LIFE. DUE TO THE COMPETITION MANY TEENAGERS CAN NOT SPEND THEIR FREE TIME WITH THEIR FAMILY . THERFORE THEY CAN NOT SHARE ANY PROBLEM WITH THEIR PARENTS. ANOTHER REASON IS THAT SOME PEOPLE CAN NOT FACE ANY ISSUE THEN THEY GOT INTO DEPPRATION. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN STUDENTS FACE PROPLEM REALED THEIR STUDIES THEN THEY STEMPET SUICIDE. AS A RESULT IT HAS ALSO FEW DREAWBACKS FOR CITIZENS.

IN CONCLUSION, THERE IS NO DOUGHT THAT BECAUSE OF THE COMPITITON PAOPLE WORK HARD AND BUILT THEIR CONFIDANCE WHIT THIS THEY CAN FULFILL THEIR DESIRES . FROM MY PERSPECTIVE IT IS NOT CRUCIAL TO COMPET WITH EACH OTHERS DUE TO THIS NUMEROUS PEOPLE FACE MANY CHALLENGES . MOREOVER , THEY HAVE NOT ENOUGH TIME TO SHARE THEIR PEOBLEM WITH FAMILY.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on competition versus cooperation and provides a personal opinion, sitting comfortably in the middle band. However, the task is only partially addressed because the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions that competition builds confidence and helps students improve performance, these points are supported with very basic generalisations rather than detailed elaboration or deep examples. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding stress and negative student outcomes is introduced but lacks sufficient extension. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of argument needs to be expanded significantly to move beyond surface-level assertions into well-supported discussions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and the conclusion. However, there is a distinct lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences feels disjointed at times. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be mechanical and repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences with 'ON THE ONE HAND', 'IN ADDITION', or 'ANOTHER REASON IS THAT'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, which disrupts the natural flow of ideas. To progress, the writer must ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas smoothly and naturally rather than acting as formulaic scaffolding.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are numerous severe spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'DOUGHT', 'COMPITITION', 'REPIDLY', 'FILD', 'BENIFICIAL', 'WHERAS', 'PERF', 'BENIFITS', 'CONFIDACE', 'SUCCED', 'DEPPRATION', 'PROPLEM', 'REALED', 'STEMPET', 'DREAWBACKS', 'PAOPLE', 'BUILT', 'WHIT', 'COMPET', and 'PEOBLEM'. These frequent spelling errors and basic word-choice limitations restrict the range of vocabulary significantly and impede smooth communication, keeping the lexical score at a lower level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('TAKING PERT IN COMPITITTION HAVE', 'SOME PEOPLE CAN NOT FACE ANY ISSUE THEN THEY GOT'), awkward prepositions, and missing or incorrect articles. For instance, the phrase 'ALTHOUGH ID ENCOURAGE TO EVERY ONE TO WORK HARD' contains multiple structural and agreement errors. While some simple sentences are communicated successfully, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies causes frequent difficulty for the reader and prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of structural control.
