Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits of competition and cooperation and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes repetitive. For instance, while the writer mentions that competition encourages skill improvement, the supporting example regarding smartphones is somewhat generalized and lacks deeper explanation. Similarly, the opinion provided in the conclusion and body paragraphs remains somewhat basic rather than fully extended. To move to a higher band, the student needs to fully develop all main points with extended explanations and more robust supporting evidence throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, utilizing standard introductory and concluding paragraphs alongside distinct body paragraphs for each view. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transition markers are used rigidly, and referencing occasionally lacks clarity, such as in the concluding sentences where the logical progression between clauses breaks down. For example, the sentence starting with 'While, cooperate is also essential...' disrupts the flow. To improve, the writer should ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs and use cohesive devices more naturally without relying on repetitive formulas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but the range is quite limited. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but this is often accompanied by noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and word choice. Examples of lexical errors include 'intergral' instead of integral, 'competiton' and 'competiton' instead of competition, 'enhace' instead of enhance, 'oppoertunity' instead of opportunity, 'employessnmay' instead of employees may, 'coorporation' instead of cooperation, and 'cordination' instead of coordination. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student must broaden their lexical range and eliminate basic spelling and word formation mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but the range of structures remains limited, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text that cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include article omission and misuse, such as 'This essay will discussed both view and my opinion in forthcoming paragraph', subject-verb agreement issues like 'Many people thinks that coorporation is essential things', and structural fragments such as 'Supporting eachother in any sport game, school project ,and many other activity, it provide platform'. To progress, the student needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
