Student answer (Band 5.0)

This paragraph illustrate that comparison between the competition of two types of people. some people think that competition at the place of work school and in our daily life is a good think but the other one is thought that we should cooperate with each other in every situations.

In my perspective both peoples are right because if they want improve their work competition is must .if they are in competition they work hard for getting good jobs .students work hard in their exams days because they can understand their fellows are in competition with each others .if they want a good job they should try best and work hard for their job they can understand competition is very high among students .

on the other hand competition can encourage people to work hard and improve their abilities. samilarly ,competition in the work place can encourage employees to improve their performance and develop new skills.

but on the other hand cooperation can also play an important role in peoples lives. when individuals work together they can share their knowledge skills and ideas .in this way they can easily done their work at fixed time .if they cooperate with each other they can share their problems with their colleagues and handle their difficulties. they can complete their work in a limited time they can enjoy work together. if they have common goals working together can be particularly useful .

in my openion although health competition can motivate peoples to improve themselves. cooperation is more important in many situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both views regarding competition and cooperation and attempts to provide an opinion in the conclusion. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed throughout the essay. For instance, the introduction states the topic broadly as a comparison between two types of people rather than outlining the prompt's core themes of workplace and daily life competition. The body paragraphs present repetitive points without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples, leading to a partial fulfillment of the task. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to extend their ideas fully, present a clearer and more consistent position throughout the response, and support arguments with well-developed explanations and specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. The connection of ideas within and between sentences often feels repetitive and disjointed. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, such as the redundant transition 'but on the other hand' and 'samilarly', which do not properly guide the reader through the logical development of the argument. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, and paragraphing is irregular, with multiple short sections that obscure the essay's structure. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure a logical progression of ideas from start to finish, use a wider range of cohesive devices accurately without overuse, and manage paragraphing more effectively so that each paragraph has a clear central topic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic and repetitive terms such as 'competition', 'work', 'hard', and 'cooperate'. There are noticeable lexical errors, including word form and word choice issues like 'health competition' instead of 'healthy competition', 'peoples' instead of 'people' or 'peoples'', and 'easily done their work' instead of 'easily complete their work'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical scope. To progress to a higher band, the writer should develop a broader and more flexible vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items with appropriate collocations, and pay closer attention to word forms and spelling to ensure precise expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting more complex forms. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies involving subject-verb agreement, such as 'This paragraph illustrate' and 'both peoples are right', missing articles like 'in place of work school', and faulty punctuation and capitalization throughout the text. These frequent errors disrupt the flow and can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve to a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, increase the proportion of error-free sentences, and maintain control over basic grammar rules, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
