Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the views on competition and cooperation while also providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the point regarding competition in the telecommunication industry is mentioned briefly without sufficient extension, and the discussion on cooperation relies on general assertions rather than fully elaborated examples. The position is evident throughout, but some arguments remain somewhat generalised and lack depth, placing this aspect of the writing firmly at the targeted level where relevant ideas are presented yet some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transition markers like "On the one hand" and "On the other hand" are used, but referencing and internal links within sentences occasionally falter, such as the abrupt transition between sentences in the second paragraph regarding the student example. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the shift from plural to singular pronouns when discussing students, which impacts the overall flow of discourse.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their thoughts on competition and cooperation. There are attempts to incorporate less common vocabulary such as "beneficial," "disputes," and "significance," though these are sometimes accompanied by noticeable spelling errors, such as "Nowdays," "qt," and "comapnies," alongside word choice and form inaccuracies like "compete with one another" instead of "competing." While these errors and occasional awkward collocations are present, they do not severely impede communication, enabling the reader to follow the argument without major difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as conditional structures. However, there are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and mechanics throughout the text. These include lowercase beginnings for sentences, missing capitalization for the pronoun "i," comma splices, and minor subject-verb agreement issues like "both has important roles." While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication, and the basic sentence structures are generally controlled, fitting the characteristics of this grammatical band.
