Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals believe that competitiveness is a good thing at work, at school and in daily life whereas others argue that we should try to collaborate more rather than oppose each other. This essay will discuss both the views before presenting my own opinion.
On one hand, proponents of the competition argue that this feeling of competition in the work place, at school and in daily life rise the spirit of doing hard work and do better in life. In addition to this, the person get to know about its position in the environment where competition exist so further it help them to improve its mistakes to be at the top rank. This will ultimately help them to build their confidence and do better performance.
On the other hand, critics contend that opposing each other every place and time leads to the loss of empathy among people so on contrary individuals should develop the habit of helping each other and make them clear the concepts which they lack behind. Moreover, this will help them to how to work with the people of different mindsets , increase patience and learn develop new ideas.
From my perspective, cooperating with each other at every place seems more convincing because this will keep the people being courteous , helpful and empathetic towards other beings and team work not only fasten the work or resolve issues frequently but also give birth to the progressive thinking and generate new ideas.
In conclusion, while both views have their own merits, I believe that we should try to collaborate more as it is more practical and beneficial in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the benefits of competition and the advantages of cooperation, and clearly presents a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Relevant ideas are presented, such as how competition builds confidence and how cooperation fosters empathy and progressive thinking. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of how competition helps individuals improve mistakes is somewhat general and lacks elaboration. To reach a higher level, these points would need to be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis. Notably, eight words copied directly from the prompt were not counted, but the essay still met the minimum length requirement overall.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the topic, through discussing both views separately, to concluding with the writer's stance. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each main body paragraph dedicated to a distinct viewpoint. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'In addition to this', 'On the other hand', and 'From my perspective' are used to guide the reader through the text, though some linking is occasionally mechanical or repetitive. Referencing can also be slightly unclear at times, such as when pronouns shift between singular and plural forms. To achieve higher bands, the flow between sentences could be made more seamless and varied.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'proponents', 'empathy', and 'progressive thinking'. However, there are noticeable word choice, collocation, and word form errors that occasionally impede smooth reading, such as 'rise the spirit' instead of 'raise', 'lack behind' instead of 'fall behind', and 'fasten the work' instead of 'speed up' or 'expedite'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, for example, 'work place' written as two words and 'learn develop new ideas'. To improve this criterion, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and better control of collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures through clauses introduced by 'whereas', 'although', and relative pronouns. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the person get to know about its position', 'team work not only fasten'), incorrect pronoun agreement ('its mistakes to be at the top rank'), and preposition errors ('competition at work... at school'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede overall communication. A greater variety of error-free complex sentences and stricter control over agreement and articles would be required to move to the next band level.
