Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this competitive world, everyone is in the race competition with others. It may be school life, work or daily life. Some people say that it os good for us but other believe that it is not good. Rather that competing, we should cooperate with eachother. Thos essay will cover both arguments and in the end, I will give my own opinion.
On the one hand, society has an arguments that competitions are good for human-beings to increase the strength. they may be held in school life, daily life or even at work. They can be beneficial for students, for individuals or even for a worker. For example, if a competition is arranged in the school for speach, all the participants will make preaparation and get ready for the final day after lots of rehearsals. At the end, the speaker will receive the reward and will enjoy his victory over many other students. It will motivate the winner to work harder as well as other participants will learn to live with the defeat and to work on them to win.
On the other hand, other people believe that its not good to compete eachother. We should work with one another instead. I also think the same. It is good.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count of at least 250 words, stopping short at 209 words. While the introduction acknowledges both views and states an intention to discuss them, the development is severely limited. The first view is touched upon with a brief example about a speech competition, but it remains under-developed. The second view is barely addressed, with the writer abruptly concluding in the final paragraph by stating 'other people believe that its not good to compete eachother. We should work with one another instead. I also think the same. It is good.' This lack of extension, coupled with the failure to reach the minimum length requirement, means the response only partially addresses the prompt and lacks a fully articulated position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction and the body paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression throughout the piece. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and at times inaccurate, such as using 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' without achieving a balanced or smoothly flowing argumentative structure. Referencing is also weak, as seen in vague transitions and the abrupt, stunted conclusion that disrupts the logical flow of ideas. To improve coherence and reach higher bands, the writer must ensure that paragraphs are fully developed and linked together with a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices to establish a clear conceptual progression from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource used in the essay is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'competition', 'cooperate', 'participants', and 'victories', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling. Examples of these slips include 'os' instead of 'is', 'eachother' as a single word, 'speach' instead of 'speech', and 'preaparation' instead of 'preparation'. Furthermore, awkward phrasings like 'race competition' and 'society has an arguments' restrict the precision of the writing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they highlight a restricted vocabulary range that requires attention in terms of spelling accuracy and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting complex forms. There are frequent grammatical mistakes throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('society has an arguments'), missing or incorrect prepositions ('compete eachother' instead of 'compete with each other'), and mechanical punctuation errors. For instance, the sentence 'Rather that competing, we should cooperate with eachother' contains both a prepositional error and a spelling slip. These frequent errors in basic and attempted structures cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over grammar and sentence patterns.
