Student answer (Band 4.0)
I believe competition both is good. Because if you have goal or you have mind set get this gift.
If you are in school then you are classes member have 25 students. Five student is very intelligent is working on daily basis, and its very gets good marks in every test. Then you have mind i get also marks, and i will add in intelligent student list. So can you work on daily. You make mind i will achieve this first goal. Then you want hard and started work daily basis. You make competition of class topper student in my opinion you will gets this goal if you work hard and you can work everyday.
Also if you another work you will started in zero then you mind i will make business or make company.
Then you work honestly and hard work and make time table over business.
If you have work goal and must use time table then i think you also good work big business.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response only partially addresses the prompt. While the writer attempts to discuss the idea of competition in school and in business, the response falls significantly short of the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 167 words. Furthermore, the two views of competition and cooperation are not fully balanced, as the discussion focuses almost exclusively on competition with very little mention of cooperation. The student's own opinion is stated briefly at the beginning, but the ideas remain limited, repetitive, and under-developed throughout the body paragraphs. To improve, the writer must ensure they meet the word count requirement, discuss both views provided in the prompt thoroughly, and extend their main ideas with relevant explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The text shows some overall attempt at organization, but it lacks a clear progression of ideas and proper paragraphing. Sentences are loosely linked using basic connectors like 'then', 'so', and 'also', which results in a mechanical and repetitive style of cohesion. For instance, the transition from discussing school competition to starting a business lacks a logical bridge. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate different aspects of the prompt, making the text read as a single disjointed block. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to structure the essay into distinct introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs, and use a wider and more accurate variety of cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple words such as 'good', 'work', 'goal', and 'marks'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as writing 'classes member' instead of 'classmates' or 'gets good marks' instead of 'achieves good grades'. Although the intended meaning can generally be understood, these frequent lexical inaccuracies and the limited range of vocabulary strain the reader. To improve lexical resource, the writer should build a broader bank of topic-related vocabulary and practice using less common lexical items with greater precision and correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying almost entirely on simple sentences that are often poorly constructed. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'competition both is good', 'you are classes member have 25 students', and 'you will started in zero'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to practice forming correct simple sentences consistently while gradually introducing controlled complex structures with accurate punctuation and verb agreement.
