Student answer (Band 4.0)

It is often thought that competiton at work, at school, and in daily life is a good thing while some believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather than cometing against each other. I firmly believe with competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing.

One arguement in favor of the first view is when we compete with our friends and colleagues we automatically cooperate. For an instance, coding technical event is hosted by institute participants by default cooperate. Furthermore, it will lead to win the event. I entirely endorse this view point because the competitor will eventually have the quality of cooperation.

On the other hand I vehemently disagree with the second view even cooperation plays a pivotal role.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only ninety-one words, which is significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum (with thirty-five words copied directly from the task prompt excluded from this count). Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, and the ideas are severely limited and under-developed. Although the writer attempts to present a position by stating, 'I firmly believe with competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing,' the discussion lacks the necessary extension and support required for both views. The second view is abruptly cut off mid-sentence, preventing any meaningful exploration of the opposing argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response exhibits some basic organisation through the use of standard transition markers such as 'One arguement in favor of' and 'On the other hand'. However, due to the extreme brevity of the text, there is no clear overall progression or fully developed paragraph structure. The essay breaks off abruptly, making it difficult to follow a logical sequence of ideas. While referencing is attempted through phrases like 'the first view' and 'the second view', the abrupt ending prevents the cohesive devices from properly connecting the arguments across a complete response.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, featuring some attempts at less common items such as 'vehemently', 'pivotal role', and 'endorse'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'competiton' and 'cometing', as well as awkward phrasing like 'coding technical event is hosted by institute participants by default cooperate.' These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors reflect a limited range and some strain on the reader, though they do not completely impede understanding of the basic concepts being introduced.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional-style clauses and relative structures, but these attempts are frequently marred by structural errors. Examples include preposition misuse in 'believe with competition' and awkward clausal integration in 'when we compete with our friends and colleagues we automatically cooperate.' Punctuation and basic agreement show instability, and while some simple sentences are clear, the frequent grammatical slips in complex patterns mean that control is restricted to simpler structures.
