Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation and providing a personal opinion, which places it within the mid-range of task achievement. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on business competition relies on a basic example about everyday products and pricing without extending the argument fully. Similarly, the section on cooperation touches upon sharing knowledge and reducing costs, but these points lack depth and specific support. While a clear position is stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion, the overall development of ideas remains superficial and lacks the extended support characteristic of higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, the two body paragraphs representing different views, and the conclusion. There is an attempt to structure the text logically, using basic transitional phrases like 'on the one hand', 'on the other hand', and 'in conclusion'. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by inadequate or repetitive cohesive devices. For example, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shift in the conclusion ('to see your competitor'), and the repetition of words like 'moreover' and 'cooperate with each other' makes the cohesion feel mechanical and somewhat repetitive rather than fluid and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'competitive', 'resources', and 'reasonable', but these attempts are frequently marred by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. Examples include 'beleive' instead of believe, 'competion' instead of competition, 'indiviuals' instead of individuals, 'usefull' instead of useful, and 'resonable' instead of reasonable. These lexical inaccuracies and persistent spelling mistakes create noticeable strain for the reader and reflect a limited lexical range that struggles to convey precise meanings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of basic sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in grammatical structures, verb forms, articles, and prepositions throughout the text. Examples include infinitive and gerund errors like 'beleive in to do competion', missing articles such as 'is a full of competion', subject-verb agreement issues like 'every business also need', and awkward phrasing like 'when one person sees another person to do good job'. These frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable difficulty and confusion for the reader, keeping the control of grammar at a basic level.
