Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often arguethat competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing. others believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other.

On the one hand, competition can motivate people to work harder and improve their skills. At school, for example, student may study more seriouslu when they compete with their classmates for good marks. Similarly, employee may try to perform better when their are opportunities for pormotions. competition can also help people to become more confident.

On the other hand, cooperation is also important because people can achive better result with work together. When people share their knowledge and ideas, problem can easily solved by this.Like, student working on a group project can divide the work and reduce their stress. This statement also go with this statement.

In my opinion, both competition and coopration are usefu, but cooperation is more importantthan competition. Therefore, people would compete when it necessary while also learning to support and cooperate eith other.

In conclusion, everything have its advantages and also disadvantages. I believe that cooperation have more advantagen then competition, but competition also plays a vital role in everyones life. Although cooperation not just only reduce the stress, it increase the efficiency of the employees.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, with a length requirement that is not met, as the response falls significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum (with twenty-eight words copied from the prompt excluded). The writer presents both views and gives a clear personal opinion in the conclusion, stating that cooperation is more important than competition. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed throughout the body paragraphs. For instance, the points about school and employment are stated simply without being fully extended or supported with well-developed examples. To move to a higher band, the writer must expand the response to meet the minimum word count and provide deeper elaboration and more detailed support for all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates some organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive statements and abrupt transitions, such as 'This statement also go with this statement.' Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, and referencing is not always clear, as seen in the phrase 'problem can easily solved by this.' To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a smoother logical progression between sentences and paragraphs, employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, and maintain consistent clarity in referencing throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about competition and cooperation. There are noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation, such as 'arguethat', 'seriouslu', 'employee' instead of employees, 'pormotions', 'achive', 'result' instead of results, 'usefu', 'coopration', 'more importantthan', 'eith', 'have' instead of has, and 'advantagen'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of word forms. To progress, the writer should expand their vocabulary range, practice correct word formation, and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent attempts at complex sentences resulting in faulty grammar. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'It is often arguethat', 'student may study', 'their are opportunities', 'problem can easily solved', 'everyone's' spelled as 'everyones', and 'cooperation not just only reduce'. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic grammatical structures, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement, improve punctuation, and successfully integrate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences.
