Student answer (Band 5.5)

Most of the people have a idea that competition at work with other is an excellent thing while other thought that we should cooperate with each other. I will discuss the both views and then I will give my own opinion.

Firstly, some people thought that competition is a best way to succeed in life. Actually, it motivates us to do better than other, it develops ego in the minds of the people and people wanted to defeat the other in any cost. Competition also develops a mindset to do more and better than others, so in attitude people do anything to defeat the other one. If the challenger do the better and more efficient things than a competitor so, the competitor applys more efforts in his work.

Many other people have a mindset to cooperate with each other and do their work in group is a wonderful way to succeed in life. They are polite and calm minded people, they believe in consistency, the do not desire to work faster. Cooperation build a postive kind of attitude for the people, then they do their work continuously and there is no competition, so they do their work peacefuly and after some time they definetly succeed in life but it takes time.

According to my knowledge, the better option is competition, cooperation takes time while if a person have a mindset to defeat the other one they succeed faster, because in ego people do anything even they not wanted it. So, if a person has desire to defeat other than they do anything to go faster than others.

To sum up, people can do anything in ego therfore they succeed surely and fastly than others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on competition and cooperation, and the writer provides a clear personal opinion. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on why competition develops ego and how it drives success is repetitive rather than expanded with deep, distinct supporting points. Similarly, the cooperative viewpoint is generalised without specific real-world examples. To move to a higher level, the ideas need more thorough extension and varied support rather than relying on circular arguments about ego.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing each view, the personal opinion, and the conclusion. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical due to repetitive transitions and basic referencing. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be somewhat formulaic, such as 'Firstly' and 'To sum up'. While referencing is generally understandable, the flow between sentences in the body paragraphs occasionally feels abrupt, which prevents the essay from achieving a more fluid and sophisticated progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the central ideas about competition and cooperation. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'have a idea', 'fastly', and 'postive', which stem from issues with word form and spelling. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'challenger', 'competitor', and 'consistency', the execution lacks precision and control, sometimes causing slight difficulty or ambiguity for the reader regarding the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'others believe that we should try to cooperate', 'Many other people have a mindset to cooperate...', and 'if a person have a mindset'. These frequent errors in basic grammar patterns cause some reading difficulty and disrupt the overall accuracy of the response.
