Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, competition has become debated issue in our society. Some people think that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing for the growth of youngsters. While others believe that we should try to cooperate more with one another, rather than competing against each other. According to me, i believe that competition is necessary for us as well cooperation is also a good thing.
Firstly, about competition, when there is tough competition at work, at shools and in our daily life routine, we need to work harder for the betterment of our lives so individuals can achieve more knowledge and success. They can also gather self confidence and respect. When they work more to compete with others, they can be more energetic and persistent in their working. For example, at school, when a stident wants to get more grade than his fellow he will work much more and strictly to achieve its aim. Its beneficial for the student as well as for his future because when he works hard he will surely get success.
Secondly, competition has some drawbacks also, in competition persons only want to beat others by hook or by crook. They only want to go on first and leave all people before and after this they become ununited and develop hate for others. For example, when an employe want to get a higher rank than his collegue he only want to put his collegue backward he don't care how's the way he chooses. So cooperation is also necessary to live the life in a worhfull way.
In conclusion, my opinion is that competition is essential for the lives and cooperate with others is also a much benefitable thing for our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the discussion and give a position: competition can motivate people, while cooperation is also necessary. The examples about a student seeking higher grades and an employee seeking promotion are relevant, and the conclusion restates your view. However, the position is not fully clear or consistently explained: “competition is necessary for us as well cooperation is also a good thing” does not show how you weigh the two. The benefits and drawbacks are asserted more than developed, and the cooperation viewpoint receives little explanation beyond saying it is necessary. Explain when cooperation is preferable and support that point with a specific example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: the second paragraph moves from competition’s drawbacks to cooperation without developing the connection, and the final paragraph mostly repeats the opening position. Some linking is mechanical, while references such as “after this” are unclear. Organise each body paragraph around one main claim, then explain it and connect the example explicitly to that claim. A separate, developed paragraph on cooperation would also make the overall argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “self confidence,” “persistent,” and “drawbacks.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “gather self confidence,” “get more grade,” “put his colleague backward,” and “benefitable thing.” Spelling errors such as “shools,” “stident,” and “employe” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing motivation, achievement and teamwork, and check spelling and word forms during revision. For instance, use “gain self-confidence” and “achieve a higher grade.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “when there is tough competition … we need to work harder.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation. For example, “competition has become debated issue” needs an article, while “an employe want” and “he don't care” show agreement problems. The opening also contains a sentence fragment beginning “While others believe,” and “According to me, i believe” is awkwardly constructed. Practise forming complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and capitalisation. More accurate control of these basics will make your ideas clearer.
