Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals state that competitions at vocational places, schools and in day-to-day pursuits is a beneficial thing. Others believe that we should struggle to cooperate more instead of competing with each other. From my perspective, latter proposition appears to be more rational and logical; I shall elaborate it with the help of suitable reasons and also draw a suitable conclusion for it.
On the one hand, a handful of individuals state that a competition is imperative at distinct places including work places, schools and in daily life activities. Furthermore, they support their notions by claiming that by participating in a competition; individuals can achieve something meaningful in their lives. Prime instances are those who compete at vocational places or in schools and earn rewards or prizes because they are able to do something more than their collaegues. That is why due to these competitions they may achieve some thing exceptional for themselves.
On the other hand, some citizens reject the previous notions about competitions and demonstrate that competitions are not mandatory in different fields of life. Apart from competitions, they promote cooperation; due to the fact that, they know helping and grasping the concepts of other persons may facilitate in achieving goals which are related to success. A prime instance is a vocational place where workers can sort out matters with the help of seniors which are increasingly challenging for them. Indeed, in this way they can acquire the steps of success.
To put it briefly, competitions are not compulsory for achieving something meaningful. From my perspective, cooperation is a more crucial step which plays an instrumental role in success.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both perspectives and state a clear preference for cooperation in the introduction and conclusion. The workplace examples are relevant: competition may bring rewards, while cooperation can help workers resolve difficult matters with senior colleagues. However, the ideas remain general and are not fully explained. For instance, you say competition helps people achieve “something exceptional,” but do not clarify what benefits this brings beyond prizes. Likewise, the cooperation example could explain how shared knowledge improves outcomes. The response therefore addresses the task, but some points are less fully developed than others. To strengthen it, explain the consequences of each view and make your own reasoning more explicit throughout, rather than relying mainly on broad claims and repeated conclusions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To put it briefly” makes the progression easy to follow. This coherent organisation is a strength. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Furthermore” introduces a supporting claim without showing how it develops the previous point, while “Apart from competitions” does not clearly express the contrast intended. The repeated references to “success” and “achieving something meaningful” also make the progression feel less developed. Use linking phrases that express the precise relationship between ideas, and build each paragraph through a claim, explanation, and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary related to the topic, including “imperative,” “cooperation,” “vocational places,” and “instrumental role.” This shows an attempt to use less common and formal language. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity: “struggle to cooperate” suggests difficulty rather than a recommendation to cooperate, and “vocational places” is not a natural way to refer to workplaces. There are also spelling errors, such as “collaegues,” and awkward expressions such as “grasping the concepts of other persons.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than choosing formal-sounding words where a simpler phrase is more appropriate. More precise vocabulary would make your arguments clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “that.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall message remains clear. Some grammatical errors and awkward constructions persist, however. In the opening sentence, “competitions … is” has a subject–verb agreement problem; the plural subject requires “are.” In “the latter proposition,” an article is needed before “latter,” and “a competition is imperative at distinct places” has an awkward grammatical pattern. Punctuation also interrupts the sentence “by participating in a competition; individuals can achieve…,” where the semicolon is not appropriate. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, and practise combining clauses without making sentence structures cumbersome.
