Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this contemperory era, competition had become an natural aspect of everday life. Some contend that competition in acadamic and proffesional life can prove to be useful and productive, while others concur that unity and cohesion is more benefical for the overall society. Although, unity and solidarity is siginificant for integration in the society, I firmly believe that competition is necessary for growth and motivation.
To commence with, motivation is important for mental and physical growth of anyone, without it a person may not have any meaning of life. In addition, motivation can be guaranteed through compeition, seeing other win can lead to people improving themselves to compete so that they can also achieve what the other person have. For example, healthy competition among students can motivate them to study harder, improving their acadamic and cocurricular performance. However, sometimes it may add the factors of enmity and jeolousy causing minor arguements.
In addition, the most intelligent and talented person is rewarded and this can be done by holding a competition to pick out the most deserving. For instance, companies and school organises events to award the individuals on their success and personal talents in IQ tests and sports which is done through competitons to taken out their beneficial qualities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You state a clear opinion—that competition is necessary for growth and motivation—and give relevant examples involving students, companies, and schools. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it develops reasons in favour of competition but does not explain the opposing view of cooperation, despite mentioning unity in the introduction. The point about jealousy is brief and is not developed into a discussion of why cooperation may be preferable. The examples are also general rather than fully explained. The response is 209 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum. To strengthen the answer, explain both viewpoints in separate, developed paragraphs and show how your examples support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction followed by two paragraphs supporting competition, and linking phrases such as “To commence with,” “In addition,” and “For example” help signal relationships between ideas. However, there is no conclusion, and the overall progression is incomplete because the opposing view announced in the introduction is not developed. Some connections are also unclear: the sentence about motivation being important moves quickly to the claim that it can be “guaranteed” through competition, without explaining the link. The second body paragraph repeats the case for competition rather than advancing a balanced discussion. Use clearer topic sentences, develop the cooperation argument, and finish with a concise conclusion that restates your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cohesion,” “solidarity,” “motivation,” “deserving,” and “personal talents.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, spelling errors are frequent, including “contemperorary,” “acadamic,” “proffesional,” and “compeition,” and some word combinations are unnatural, such as “meaning of life” in this context and “taken out their beneficial qualities.” These inaccuracies make parts of the response less clear and limit the precision of your argument. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “identify their strengths” would express the intended meaning more clearly than “taken out their beneficial qualities.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “Although” and a reason clause in “seeing other win can lead to people improving themselves.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms recur. For example, “Although, unity and solidarity is significant” has incorrect punctuation after the subordinating conjunction and subject–verb agreement; “a person may not have any meaning of life” has an awkward article pattern; and “the other person have” does not agree in number. The final sentence, “which is done through competitions to taken out,” is also structurally unclear. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and clause construction, and proofread longer sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly connected.
