Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the current societal landscape, competition among peers is a common phenomenon that is being addressed among a diverse amount of population. Many people argue that competition is an outstanding thing in daily life, while some believe that cooperation is far more important. From my perspective, I partially agree with this opinion.

On the one hand, no doubt competition plays a crucial role in our daily lives. It keeps people motivated in the long run. Whether the competition is among students at school or among employees at work, it makes them much more confident. To illustrate, students in primary schols often works hard to achieve first position in their class. Hence, they will learn and understand their lessons more efficiently than those who don't take competition seriously. Therefore, such students are more likely to excel in their class. Moreover, workers at work frequently needs promotion. In this way, they compete with their co-workers to get the opportunity and improve their scales.

On the other hand, I belive that cooperation among peers is of utmost importance, otherwise the outcomes would be disappointing. If people focuses too much on competing with each other, they are more likely to end up in quarrels. For instance, children in schools often fight for smallest things including their sitting areas. Many students wants to sit at the front row, and eventually, start competing with their classmates. As a result, the discipline of the class disturbs. Furthermore, many parents often compares their children with others. This leads to anxiety, depression, and even failure in their life. Therefore, it is believed that too much competition leads to struggles in professional and personal life.

In conclusion, I partially agree with the statement of competition in daily lives. Excess of anthing is bad for own wellbeing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both competition and cooperation and give a personal position, so the response addresses the main parts of the task. The competition paragraph explains motivation and uses students’ efforts and workers seeking promotion as examples. The cooperation paragraph also gives relevant consequences, including conflict and pressure from parental comparisons. However, your position is described as “partially agree” without clarifying which situations call for competition and which for cooperation. Some support is also under-developed: the example of students competing over seats illustrates conflict, but does not fully explain how cooperation would improve the situation. Develop the comparison and make your own view more precise to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and examples generally appear alongside the point they support. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, links between claims can feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Therefore” and “As a result.” Some references are also unclear, such as “this opinion” in the introduction, which does not identify the view being discussed. Use a wider range of natural links and make connections between examples and arguments more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic and attempt some less common expressions, including “crucial role,” “of utmost importance,” and “professional and personal life.” The meaning is generally understandable, but inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward. For example, “a diverse amount of population” is not a natural expression, “improve their scales” does not clearly convey career progress, and “the discipline of the class disturbs” is incorrectly formed as a phrase. There are also spelling errors such as “schols,” “belive,” and “anthing.” Aim for more precise, natural collocations and proofread carefully; this will make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If people focuses too much on competing…” and a relative clause in “students…who don’t take competition seriously.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “students…often works” should have a plural verb, while “many students wants” and “many parents…compares” also show subject–verb agreement problems. In “the discipline of the class disturbs,” the verb pattern is incomplete. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking the subject and verb in each clause, and vary complex structures while keeping them controlled.
