Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You discuss both sides and give relevant examples: the exam-ranking example shows how competition can motivate students, while the class example illustrates the benefits of mutual support. However, the response only partially fulfils the task because the ideas are brief and under-developed, and your own opinion is not clearly stated. The conclusion says both approaches are important but explains only competition, so it does not resolve the comparison or show how you weigh the two views. The response is also 203 words, below the required 250; 42 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Develop each example further and state your position directly, including a reason for it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main stages of your discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several ideas run together without clear sentence boundaries, particularly in the first body paragraph. Linking is also repetitive: “for example” introduces both examples, while “because” is used repeatedly to connect claims and explanations. The conclusion does not clearly follow from both body paragraphs. Use separate, clearly focused sentences, vary linking expressions, and make the relationship between each claim, explanation, and example explicit. Clearer paragraph development would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “motivation,” “challenges,” “support,” and “rank,” and the reader can generally understand the intended ideas. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “competition,” “good,” and “help, support.” Frequent spelling errors such as “compitation,” “breliant,” “benifits,” and “capicity” make the writing less clear and reduce accuracy. Some word combinations are also unnatural, for example “extand human thinking” and “give guidances each other.” Build a wider set of accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; this will help you express the same ideas more precisely and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences using words such as “because” and “when,” but these complex attempts are often faulty, and most sentence patterns are simple or repetitive. For example, “Both the views have valid argument both points have its own…” joins two ideas without suitable punctuation, while “all the students support each other … and at the end all the 25 students get…” has problems with agreement and sentence control. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “competition is good thing” and “two student.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the message. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
