Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemparary era, some people believe that compition at work, school, and in daily life is beneficial. However, other think that people should cooperate instead of competing with each other. This essay will articulate both the perspectives along with my own view.

To commence with the first view, competition encourages people to work harder and achieve their goals. To be precise, students may study more to get better marks than their classmates. For instance, a student who want to rank first in class may spend extra time studying. Consequently, competition can improve skills, build confidence and motivate individuals to succeed.

On the other hand, the other group of individuals think that cooperation is more important. To elaborate further on this point, working togather helps people share ideas and solve problem easily. A clear example of this would be team sports, where players must support one another to win a match. As a result, cooperation builts trust, imroves relationships, and helps people achieve common goals.

According to my perception, cooperation is more important than competition. The main reason behind this is that people can achieve better results when they support and learn from each other. However, healthy competition is also useful for personal growth.

To recapitulate, common view of individuals on compitition and cooperation with each other. Though both points of view have merit. However, i believe that cooperation should be given more importance because it promotes teamwork, understanding and long-time sucess.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for cooperation, while also acknowledging that healthy competition can support personal growth. The examples about studying to rank first and players supporting one another are relevant, and the main reasons—motivation, skill development, trust and shared goals—are understandable. However, the ideas are brief and some are asserted rather than explained; for example, you do not show how cooperation leads to better results beyond sharing ideas. The conclusion is also unclear in its opening sentence (“common view of individuals…”), which weakens the summary of your position. The response is 240 words, below the required 250, so it needs a little more development as well as clearer concluding wording.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for competition and cooperation, your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “As a result” help readers follow the main points. However, some transitions feel mechanical or repetitive, including “To commence with,” “To elaborate further on this point,” and “To recapitulate.” The final paragraph also contains a fragment-like opening (“To recapitulate, common view of individuals…”) followed by “Though both points of view have merit. However,” which interrupts the flow. Use fewer formulaic signposts and connect the conclusion directly to the arguments already presented.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “achieve their goals,” “build confidence,” “share ideas,” “common goals,” and “personal growth.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-related wording is effective. However, spelling errors are noticeable, such as “contemparary,” “compition,” “togather,” “builts,” “imroves,” and “sucess.” There are also awkward or imprecise expressions, including “According to my perception” and “long-time success.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and naturalness. Proofread spelling carefully and choose more conventional collocations so your vocabulary is both clear and appropriate to an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a student who want to rank first” and a “where” clause in the team-sports example. Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors do not usually block communication. Some grammatical problems are evident, however: “other think” needs subject–verb agreement, “a student who want” needs a matching verb form, and “solve problem” needs a plural noun or determiner. The conclusion also has incomplete or poorly connected sentence structures: “Though both points of view have merit” is a dependent clause standing alone, while “However” is awkwardly placed after it. Work on agreement, noun forms, and complete sentence construction while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
