Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people argues that competition at work, at education institute and in daily life is a positive development, while the other group disagrees and argue that people should work together, rather than competing against each other. While, both these arguments have pros and cons, in my opinion advantages outweighs limitations.

To begin with, competition has many benefits to it. One of them is competetion directly or indirectly plays a role in a growth of individual. Without the hunger of being ahead of someone in any field work or study can demotivate to work more harder on themselfs. For instance, "Healthy competition" is a term in business that aid businesses to compete in the market and grow their share in the market, while competing with other businesses. This type of competetion help many businesses to grow and earn big profits.

Furthermore, secondly competetion is necessary for better development of mentality of an individual. In addition, Wheter it is a student or a employee to grow in a field, a sense of overtaking someone is important to grow. Although, Competition sometimes can create a sense of hatered or can affect pyschologically. So sometimes working as a group rather than competing individually can give better results.

In conclusion, it is often argued that competiton in jobs, in education and

in personal life is beneficial. While, others oppose it saying co-operation is more beneficial. In my perspective, working together indeed have some advantages but competition's benefits outweighs the limitations. Such as, Individual growth of a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You present a clear overall preference for competition, stating that its advantages outweigh its limitations, and you give relevant reasons such as motivation and business growth. You also acknowledge a drawback—competition can create hostility or psychological effects—and briefly recognise the value of group work. However, the discussion of cooperation is much less developed than the discussion of competition, and the examples mainly support only one side. The point about individual development is repeated rather than extended with a specific explanation or example. To address the task more fully, explain how cooperation benefits people or organisations, then compare the two approaches and support your final view with a developed example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with” and “In conclusion” help identify stages of the argument. However, progression is uneven: the second body paragraph begins “Furthermore, secondly,” which combines two transitions, and it shifts between competition and cooperation without clearly developing either point. Several ideas are repeated, especially individual growth and the claim that competition is necessary. The conclusion also introduces “Individual growth” as a fragment-like final point rather than integrating it into a complete summary. Use one clear topic sentence per paragraph, organise each paragraph around a distinct idea, and connect examples explicitly to the claims they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “healthy competition,” “co-operate,” “market share,” and “psychologically,” so the reader can follow the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations and spellings are inaccurate or repetitive, including “growth of individual,” “work more harder,” “hatered,” and repeated forms of “competition.” These errors sometimes make the wording awkward or less clear. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe competition as “a source of motivation” and say that businesses “increase their market share.” Vary repeated terms with suitable alternatives such as “rivalry” or “collaboration,” while ensuring that each alternative fits the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast structure beginning “While” and a concession introduced by “Although.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “Some people argues” and “advantages outweighs,” missing or incorrect articles in “a growth of individual,” and faulty comparative structure in “work more harder.” The sentence beginning “Although, Competition sometimes…” is not correctly joined to the surrounding idea, and the final “Such as, Individual growth of a person” is incomplete. Practise accurate agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and build complex sentences with a complete main clause. Proofreading for punctuation and capitalisation will also improve control.
