Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain people believe that competition in workspace, school and daily life is a good thing. On the contrary others think that cooperation is more beneficial rather than competing against each other. In my opinion, a person surrounded by competitive people will bring out better version of themselves. However, In this essay, we will discuss both of the following views.

On the one hand, we have people thinking rivarly is a good thing. Being able to compete with our fellow teammates will bring out the best version of ourseleves, as we could learn from our mistakes or develop needful skills which can be helpful in career growth. For example, In basketball jordan and james are very famous for their rivarly, and how they help each other to have a profound career in the sport. Therefore,a person being able to survive in a competitive space will eventually become best version of themselves.

On the other hand, the ability to cooperate with each other can also be a good thing. The act of being a team player can be very beneficial for overall team's growth. For example, In football, the players should really invest time in getting to know each other's strength and weaknesses in order to perform tactics that will result to the victory. However, always being cooperative with each other and lack of competitiveness among players might not be an ideal choice for personal growth.

In conclusion, to bring out the best version of oneself there should be rivarly and competition. Although being a cooperative has its own advantages, it might not always be an ideal choice for a character development. Moreover, I personally think that, if rivarly existed at work, at school and in daily life everyone would have been benefited.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for competition, including in the introduction and conclusion. The examples from basketball and football are relevant and help illustrate rivalry and teamwork. However, the cooperation argument is less fully developed: the football example explains why coordination matters, but does not explore its wider benefits beyond winning. Some claims also need clearer support, such as the idea that rivalry benefits everyone, and the basketball example does not clearly show how the rivals help one another. Develop each view more evenly and explain how your examples prove your points. The response meets the stated length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from competition to cooperation is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast explicit. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, transitions can feel mechanical, and “However” in the introduction does not clearly connect the ideas that precede and follow it. The conclusion also repeats the preference for competition rather than synthesising how cooperation and competition might work together. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and make the relationship between sentences clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “competitive space,” “team player,” “career growth,” and “personal growth,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “profound career,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and limit precision. Examples include “workspace” for the broader setting of work, “needful skills,” and “result to the victory.” Spelling errors such as “rivarly” and “ourseleves” are noticeable, while repeated use of “best version of themselves” makes the vocabulary less varied. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling; for example, use “develop useful skills” and “lead to victory.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as” and “in order to,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as the explanation that players need to understand one another’s strengths and weaknesses. However, there are some errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For instance, “a person surrounded by competitive people will bring out” has an unclear subject, and “the best version of ourseleves” does not agree with the singular “a person.” The opening also joins contrasting ideas awkwardly, while several sentences run directly into the next without spaces after full stops. Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread punctuation and article use.
