Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a complex world, people tend to consider competition as a beneficial thing at workplace, institute and in routine life. However, some people emphasize on cooperation rather than competing with each another. My personal suggestion is that due to technological advancements and narrow job market ratio competition is necessary for personal development and growth. However, maintaining a balance between cooperation and competence would be a necessary ethical step.

On one hand, it is generally considered to maintain a certain level of competence with colleages at job place, schools, and in our basic routine life. Due to modern technological developments, most of the jobs are replaced by AI. In this way, the future of many individuals is already on stake and people have lost jobs in recent decades because of the introduction of automation work. So, for the personal survival in saturated job market, it is considered necessary to maintain a competition. For instance, a student try to achieve highest scores in class to get a reward or a person at workplace put continuos efforts to achieve a high rank job in office. In this way, they would be able ti have personal development and growth.

On the other hand, people emphasize on cooperation rather than having a competition with each other. This is beneficial for peace, unity and mutual development. For instance, if a highly intellectual student in classroom assist his fellow classmate to improve his results by giving him part time tution in his leisue time. This would lead to mutual development and coperation. Also if a person continue to compete with each other, they may lose dignity and rivalry may pertain among them that may cause harmful consequences.

In my opinion, competition is necessary among individuals to achieve a sustainable future . As in many developing countries, many people struggle to get a job because of very saturated job market ratio. If they start comparing their assessments with others and continue the struggle to compete with them to gain better results. They would be able to get job on merit in future. However, it shouldnot be considered a rivalry and people should so cooperate with each other while working on personal development on growth.

In conclusion, competition among individuals at schools, workplaces and in daily life is necessary for personal growth. However, people should not consider competition as a rivalry. Individuals should also cooperate with their colleages where they do consider necessary to prevail peace , harmony and unity .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: competition supports personal development, but cooperation should prevent rivalry. The examples about students seeking high scores and colleagues helping one another are relevant, and the conclusion returns to your main view. This meets the task well overall. However, some points are asserted more than explained. For example, the link between AI replacing jobs and competition improving an individual’s prospects needs clearer reasoning, and the tutoring example could explain more directly how cooperation benefits both students. To strengthen the response further, develop each main claim with a specific explanation or consequence and keep the balance between the two views equally clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for competition and cooperation, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the main position is generally easy to identify. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The paragraph beginning “In my opinion” repeats points from the competition paragraph rather than extending the argument, and the transition from AI-related job losses to the need to compete is not fully explained. There are also awkward links within sentences, such as “If they start comparing their assessments with others…They would be able to get job on merit.” Use clearer referencing and develop each paragraph’s point before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “technological advancements,” “automation,” “mutual development,” and “rivalry,” which helps communicate the discussion. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural. Examples include “emphasize on cooperation,” “job market ratio,” “maintain a competition,” and “rivalry may pertain.” Spelling errors such as “colleages,” “continuos,” and “coperation” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations rather than translating phrases directly: for example, say “emphasise cooperation,” “a competitive job market,” and “rivalry may develop.” Proofreading for spelling and word forms would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “if,” and “while,” and your meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “a student try” should be “a student tries,” and “a person … put continuous efforts” needs a singular verb. The sentence beginning “If they start comparing…” is incorrectly separated from “They would be able…”; these clauses should be joined or punctuated as one sentence. Other examples include “shouldnot be considered” and the comma spacing in “peace , harmony.” Work on checking subject–verb agreement and forming complete, correctly punctuated sentences, while continuing to practise complex structures.
