Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals believe in daily life competition plays an important role at work and in schools while others prefer cooperation among them rather than competition. Both views have valid points. In my opinion, competition is more important than cooperation.

Competition at office and in educational institutions plays an major role as it increase competitive spirit among the individuals which overall improves the performance. For instance, if there is a competition between the employees they work hard and input their efforts inorder to be in the top of the list. Many students study effectively and try to gain more marks to secure merit rank in the academics.

On the other hand, most of the people think cooperation between employees and students helps to improve communication and builds healthy relationship among them. Because if there no competition people can help each other in the weaker areas and share knowledge. For example, if a student is weak in the mathematics and there are few students who are good at it can teach them during study hours or before examination and in the offices if there is an technical issue it would be great aspect if they have cooperation between them. Thereby, the bond between them improves gradually which inturn beneficial for organization as well as pupils.

In my point of view, competition plays a major role because it builds confidence and overall personality development. For example, participating in various programes and wining in programe boosts one's self confidence.

In conclusion, Although, cooperation improves human relations, competition buils confidence and builds competitive spirit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for competition, first in the introduction and again in the final body paragraph. The examples about employees working harder, students aiming for higher marks, and students helping one another are relevant and make the discussion easy to follow. However, the two views are not developed equally: cooperation receives a fuller explanation, while your own case for competition relies mainly on confidence and personality development, with limited explanation of how these benefits arise. The conclusion repeats the main contrast but does not add a developed final insight. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of competition and cooperation more fully and connect each example directly to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate discussion of competition and cooperation, a paragraph stating your opinion, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a coherent route through both views. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The cooperation paragraph combines student and workplace examples in one long sentence, and “Thereby” does not clearly identify which preceding point it refers to. The conclusion also begins with “Although” but lacks a clear sentence structure. Use shorter, more clearly connected sentences and make references explicit to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “competitive spirit,” “cooperation,” “communication,” “share knowledge,” and “self confidence.” These choices generally convey your meaning, and the examples show an attempt to use language beyond basic repetition. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “input their efforts,” “secure merit rank,” and “great aspect.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “programes,” “wining,” and “buils,” which reduce accuracy. Some phrases, such as “plays a major role,” recur without much variation. Build a more precise range of collocations for describing outcomes, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if there is a competition between the employees” and a contrastive opening with “Although.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors occur in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “it increase” should use a verb agreeing with its subject, and “there no competition” is missing a verb. In “if a student is weak in the mathematics,” the article is unnecessary, while “there is an technical issue” has an article-agreement error. The final sentence beginning “Although” is also not grammatically complete as written. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and practise punctuating subordinate clauses within complete sentences.
