Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that competition at work among colleagues and at school between students and even in daily life is a positive thing. While some believe that the individual at work place and schools should cooperate more with each other instead of competing against each other. I think the statement one has its own merit but the second statement is more convincing.

Many people think competition at work places between colleagues and at school among students and even in daily life is a positive thing. Some organizations play with competitive mindset to get more of there employees. One of the reason of this is, when their is a positive competition between individuals in an organization, every one is trying to work hard to deliver more in order to compete with others. This helps organizations finish tasks on time.

On the other side, some individuals believe that their should be no comparisn and competition at work places and schools and people should cooperate more with each others. According to me, this statement has more merit than the first one and the reason is, when in a company employees work togather as a team and colliburate on a project togather, their is high chance of of success in that project as everyone has their own speciality in their own field. For example in our office we all work togather on a single website and if someone is not capable of doing something the other help him solve the problem and push the code.

In conclusion, Although competition at schools and work places has its own benifits, i believe working in a team and help each other rather than competing against each other is the best way to finish the tasks more accurately.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and make your preference clear: the introduction says cooperation is “more convincing,” and the conclusion again favours teamwork. The supporting examples are relevant, particularly the workplace team developing a website and helping colleagues solve problems. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The competition paragraph mainly explains that employees work harder and tasks are completed on time; it would be stronger with a specific example or a fuller explanation of possible benefits beyond productivity. The cooperation argument is more developed, but the essay could also explain when competition may be useful and acknowledge any limits to teamwork. This would make the discussion more balanced and the reasoning more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other side” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress from competition to cooperation. Some linking is mechanical or repetitive, however: the opening of the first body paragraph repeats much of the introduction, and “work places,” “at school,” and “even in daily life” recur several times. A few references are also unclear, such as “the statement one” and “the second statement.” Use more precise references and connect each example directly to the point it supports to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “positive competition,” “work hard,” “as a team,” and “speciality.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “deliver more” and “push the code,” though these are not always natural or precise in this context. Noticeable spelling errors include “comparisn,” “colliburate,” “togather,” and “benifits,” while phrases such as “play with competitive mindset” and “more of there employees” show weaknesses in word choice and collocation. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but they limit precision. Build a reliable range of workplace and education vocabulary, and check spelling and common word combinations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “While some believe…” and a conditional structure in “when… employees work together… there is high chance…”. The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening “While some believe…” is a fragment because it is not joined to a main clause. There are also agreement and article problems in “One of the reason” and “there is high chance,” and the sentence beginning “when there is a positive competition” has awkward clause construction. Review sentence boundaries, singular/plural agreement, and articles, then proofread punctuation and capitalisation. More consistently controlled complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
