Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both sides of the discussion and state a preference for cooperation: “we need to cooperate with each other” and “We should not compete against each other.” The examples about workplace rewards, school sports and helping someone who faces difficulties are relevant. However, the views are only partly developed. The cooperation argument has just one brief example, and the benefits or drawbacks of competition are asserted rather than explained. Your position is also not fully consistent: the opening says people should “learn more from competition,” while the conclusion favours cooperation. Clarify whether learning through competition is a separate view or part of your own position, then explain each main point with a specific consequence or example. The response meets the stated length requirement; the nine words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand” and “In my opinion” help readers identify the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and some links between ideas are unclear. The opening and second paragraph repeat the contrast between competition and learning, while the conclusion introduces “caliber” without clearly connecting it to the earlier examples. References such as “they” in “they should participate” are also not fully clear. Develop each paragraph around one main point, explain how the example supports it, and avoid repeating the same contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “employees,” “difficulties” and “achieve their goals,” so the main ideas can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, sometimes making meaning less clear. For example, “cross each others” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “make their difficulty into easier way” is awkward. “Get a position” is also imprecise when describing a result in a sports activity. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and learn common word partnerships, such as “compete with colleagues,” “support one another” and “achieve a better result.” Check word forms and spelling, including “prize” rather than “price.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some complex forms, including conditional sentences such as “If the school has announced an sports activity” and a reason clause beginning “because everyone wants to achieve their goals.” These attempts show an effort to vary sentence structure, but many sentences contain errors in agreement, verb forms, articles or sentence construction, which can make the reader pause. Examples include “other people believes,” “Someone who prepared best … they will rewarded,” and “If someone has facing difficulties … we should helped them.” Practise matching subjects and verbs, forming past and passive constructions, and using articles accurately. For instance, revise the conditional to “If the school announces a sports activity, students should participate,” and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed verb.
