Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that competition at workplace, at school and in daily life is a best way to encourage individuals to achieve excellance, others argue that cooperation are more beneficial for individuals' well-being. In this essay, I will discuss both viewpoints and will give my opinion accordingly.

To begin with, competetion plays an essential role for the personal and professional development of the individuals. It encourages people to work hard, acquire new skills such as problem solving, decision making, logical and cognative abilities which help them to acheive success and improve their living standards. For example, In schools examation grade system motivate students to perform well , rewarding with excellance which also helps to build confidence which create more opportinities in their future career.

On the other hand, opponents argue that cooperation also benefical for mental health of the individuals because it reduces the pressure and encourages people to work together which help to creates strong relation among indivualsn and minimaze the risk. As a result, people feel more relaxe and proform their task more productively. For instance, If employees work togather for a particular task without any means of promotion or rewards, allowing them to avoiding mistakes and perform their tasks more efficiently. However, competition are essential for promotion and career growth for the individuals.

In conclusion, Although competitions are significant for the promotion and progress to the personal and professional growth of the individuals, Cooperating motive them to work in a team which is also essential for success of a business. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall view: competition can support progress, while cooperation is important, and a balance is preferable. The discussion of competition includes relevant benefits such as developing skills and improving career prospects, with the school example providing some support. The cooperation paragraph also identifies reduced pressure and stronger relationships. However, these ideas are not developed equally: the example about employees working without promotion or rewards is difficult to interpret, and the claim that cooperation reduces risk needs explanation. Clarify how the two approaches can complement each other and extend the examples to show their effects. The response meets the stated length requirement; the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and the final paragraph returns to your balanced position. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, links within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always clear. For example, “However, competition are essential” interrupts the cooperation discussion without fully explaining the contrast. The employee example also leaves the reader unsure how working without rewards relates to avoiding mistakes. Use clearer references and explain the logical connection between each claim and its example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “personal and professional development,” “well-being,” “problem solving,” and “career growth.” These choices show an attempt to discuss abstract benefits rather than relying only on basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause, as in “excellance,” “cognative,” “acheive,” and “opportinities.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “rewarding with excellance” and “cooperating motive them.” Aim for accurate forms and natural collocations, and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for the effects of competition and cooperation would help you communicate your ideas with less ambiguity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although competitions are significant…” and a reason clause beginning “because it reduces the pressure.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the essay and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “cooperation are more beneficial” should use a singular verb, while “which help to creates” combines incompatible verb forms. The opening sentence also joins two independent claims with a comma, and the final sentence needs clearer punctuation around “In my opinion.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and keeping verb patterns consistent, then review long sentences for complete, clearly connected clauses.
