Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You present a clear preference for competition, especially in the opening and conclusion, and you give relevant examples such as school quiz and sports competitions. However, the discussion of cooperation is very brief: the point that people with less experience cannot compete is not explained, and the reference to teachers and employees teaching others is unclear. As a result, the two views are not discussed with comparable development, and your reasons for preferring competition remain general rather than fully supported. To strengthen the response, explain how cooperation benefits people—for example, through sharing skills or solving problems together—and then compare that benefit with the motivation competition can provide. The response meets the stated length requirement; 34 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting competition, a shorter paragraph on cooperation, and a concluding opinion. Linking phrases such as “On the one side,” “In addition,” and “In my opinion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow because ideas are repeated or connected unclearly. For instance, the competition paragraph moves from handling daily problems to school results and then to study level without clearly showing how each point supports the main claim. The cooperation paragraph is too short to develop its point. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to its supporting reason; ensure pronouns and references identify who is acting.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “confidence,” “skills,” and “results,” and the examples of quizzes and sports make the topic clear. However, the range is basic and several phrases are repeated, particularly “better thing” and “daily life.” Some word combinations are unnatural or unclear, such as “arranged competition at their work side” and “give more interest,” which make the intended meaning harder to understand. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms: for example, describe competition as “a way to motivate people” and cooperation as “working collaboratively.” Check word forms and spelling as well, including “employees” and “prepare to win,” so that vocabulary choices communicate your ideas accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses beginning with “When” and “Because,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “Competition are” and “it give,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “Students are prepare to won,” which has faulty verb forms. Sentence construction is also problematic in “Who people attend competition they face bravely handle every problems,” where the clause structure and agreement are difficult to follow. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Pay particular attention to agreement, articles, plural forms, and consistent verb patterns, and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
