Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argue that competitive environment is an excellent way to live a life. Some argue that we should learn to live by helping, understanding and cooperating with each other rather than involving in competition. In my view, competition helps people grow in life, and also be a better version of themselves. It also boost a person's self-esteem and make him a better person.

Competiton at work , school or in daily life is an opportunity to see how great you can be at something. As a result, you will be able to find better opportunities, and those opportunities will open new avenues of success. For instance, when people compete each other, they have a drive to win. By winning they don't only earn medals but they will also earn respect aswell, which would help them boost their self-esteem. Once people begin to win and taste success, they then try to push their limits and sometimes they could see the true potential in them which was hidden.

While cooperation comes with other perks. When people dont put themselves in a competitive environment, they are sometimes at peace. There is no jealousy, or envy, instead one would learn to intoduce harmony and care for each other. As a result one could make better relationships with their peers and family and be more understanding than looking for gains and competion.

In conclusion, i believe, being coperative and care for each other is important, but in order to be a better human being, we must test our limits and this is where competition offer us an opportunity where we can learn how to find more abilities we have in us and be a more greater version of ourselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both competition and cooperation and make your own position clear: competition helps people develop, although cooperation also supports harmony and relationships. The examples of winning medals, earning respect, and discovering hidden potential are relevant to the first view. However, the cooperation paragraph is less fully developed: it mainly describes the absence of jealousy and the benefits to relationships, without explaining when cooperation might achieve better outcomes than competition. Some claims, such as competition making someone “a better person,” also need clearer explanation or support. To strengthen the response, develop both sides more evenly and connect each example directly to the task’s settings of work, school, or daily life.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Linking phrases such as “As a result,” “For instance,” and “While” help show relationships between ideas. The progression is generally understandable, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “While cooperation comes with other perks” does not fully signal the contrast, and the shift from cooperation’s benefits to the conclusion’s renewed emphasis on competition feels abrupt. Some references, such as “they” and “one,” could also be more precise. Use clearer topic sentences and transitions, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point before moving to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “self-esteem,” “avenues of success,” “jealousy,” “harmony,” and “potential,” which helps express the main ideas. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “Competiton,” “intoduce,” “coperative,” and “competion.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “compete each other,” “taste success,” and “a more greater version” do not sound idiomatic in context. Repetition of “better” and “opportunities” limits variety. Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; choosing precise terms such as “compete with one another” and “reach their potential” would make the argument more natural and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “when,” “which,” and “while,” and the main ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, however. The opening should be “It is often argued,” and “It also boost … and make” needs subject–verb agreement (“boosts … and makes”). In “competition helps people grow … and also be,” the verb pattern is not parallel; use “helps people grow … and become.” There are also article and sentence-boundary issues, as in “in order to be a better human being” followed by a long, loosely connected conclusion. Review agreement, verb patterns, and punctuation, and divide longer sentences where several ideas are joined.
