Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individual believe that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good practice, while others argue that we should be more cooperative rather than competing with ech other. I will discuss both perspectives and give my opnion afterward.

The competition culture at work, at school or in daily life are healthy at a certain level. Human normally feel motivated when they are chasing something to acheive, otherwise, it gives a negative feeling and do less in their professions. If an educational institutes remove the grading system, then students will feel less connected and motivated to their study as they are unable to know how they are performing. The same thing happen in the job market, without being competitive, we normally see lack of urge of doing more work and less motivation to achieve anything in the workplace. Therefore, the best performance award in the workplace or best student award have normally been arranged in those areas.

On the other hand, we should not always concentrate about chasing each other. It is a sign of sick mentally. It normally creates a multiple issues in a relationship and become difficult to manage a healthy bonding in our daily life. Therefore, we can be more cooperative and supportive to each other.

In my opnion, an extream level of competition is detrimental for mental health at any place like at work, at school or in daily life. We should be careful on how should we manage it. At the workplace, the higher management should always monitor if an employees feel stress about the competitive environment. At the same time, teachers should observe if any student feels more pressure due to the competitive culture. In every place, the competition culture can be benifited if it is maintained in a healthy level. Otherwise, it will be bad for our wellbeing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear opinion: competition can motivate people, but excessive competition can harm wellbeing. The examples of grading and workplace awards support the benefits, while your suggestions that managers and teachers monitor pressure make your position relevant. However, the cooperation side is less fully developed: you say competition can damage relationships and recommend being supportive, but do not explain how cooperation improves outcomes or give a concrete example. Some claims, such as people doing less without competition, are broad and would benefit from qualification or evidence. Develop the two perspectives more evenly and explain the reasoning behind each example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. The progression from motivation to the risks of excessive competition is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In my opinion” help readers recognise the shifts. This already gives the essay a coherent structure. To make the organisation more flexible and precise, connect ideas within paragraphs more explicitly and avoid relying on repeated transitions such as “Therefore” and “At the same time.” Some references are also vague—for example, “The same thing” does not specify exactly which point is being carried forward. Clearer links between claims and examples would strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competitive,” “cooperative,” “grading system,” “competitive environment,” and “mental health.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “competition,” “work,” and “thing,” and several noticeable word-choice, word-form, and spelling errors make the expression less natural. Examples include “sick mentally,” “extream,” “benifited,” and “chasing each other.” Some combinations are also awkward, such as “feel less connected … to their study.” Aim to use more precise terms for motivation, collaboration, and pressure, and check spelling and collocations carefully. The intended meaning is generally recoverable, but these errors reduce clarity and fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If an educational institutes remove the grading system” and clauses beginning “while” and “otherwise.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Many individual believe” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “The competition culture … are healthy” also has incorrect agreement. There are issues with articles and plurals in “an educational institutes” and “if an employees,” as well as verb forms in “The same thing happen.” The final paragraph also contains an awkward question structure in “how should we manage it.” Review agreement, singular and plural forms, and embedded questions, while continuing to practise varied sentence patterns.
