Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today world, some people believe that competition in the workplace educational institution and everday life is beneficial. However, other argue that people should focus on cooperation than competing with an other.Although competition can encourage individual to improve their performance, I believe that cooperation is more important for achieving long term success. On the one hand, competition can have several positive effects on individuals .It motivates people to work harder develop their skills and achieve their goals For example, students who compete their classmate may become more serious about their studies and try to achieve higher grade. similarly, employees may improve their performance when their for promotion or rewards .For instance, Oxford university conducted research competition at school students goal achieve ability 80 percent increase as compare to cooperate team work. In addition ,excessive competition may create stress and jealousy particularly when individual focus only defeating other rather than improving themselves. On the other hand, cooperation allow people to share knowledge , support one another solve problems effectively Working togther is more important when a task requires different skills and experience. For instance, during my chemistry studies , student can understand difficult scientific concepts more eassily by discussing them and sharing their ideas. similarly , in an industrial laboratory, chemist need cooperate withother team members to conduct experiments accurately and maintain quality standards. As an illustration, China has advacnce technology becaues people have more cooperative and work team togather. Moreever, cooperation builds trust, strengthens relationships and create a positive working envirnment. In conculsion, competition can motivate people to improve their abilities and achieve their ambitious . However, I believe that cooperation is more beneficial because it encourages mutual support and reduce conflict.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both sides of the question and gives a clear opinion: competition can motivate people, but cooperation is more important for long-term success. Relevant support includes the student and employee examples, as well as the chemistry-study and laboratory examples. This meets the task well, and the position remains consistent in the conclusion. Some support, however, is asserted rather than clearly explained: the claim about an Oxford University study and the statement about China’s technological progress are difficult to assess and are not connected in detail to the argument. Develop these examples by explaining the evidence or choosing a more specific, credible illustration, and extend the discussion of when competition is useful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for competition and cooperation, and a conclusion that restates the position. The contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the discussion, and examples generally appear alongside the relevant point. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by abrupt or loosely connected claims, particularly the move from laboratory teamwork to China’s technology. Some linking words, such as “similarly” and “for instance,” are used mechanically, while missing spaces after full stops make boundaries between ideas harder to see. Use clearer sentence breaks and make each example explicitly support the point immediately before it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “cooperation,” “performance,” “mutual support,” and “working environment.” It also attempts more specific expressions such as “quality standards” and “scientific concepts.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “everday,” “eassily,” “advacnce,” and “ambitious.” Several phrases are also unnatural or unclear, such as “compete their classmate,” “when their for promotion,” and “goal achieve ability.” Build accuracy by learning common collocations as complete phrases—for example, “compete with classmates” and “compete for promotion”—and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex structures, including a concession in “Although competition can encourage…” and a conditional-style explanation beginning “when a task requires…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “cooperation allow people” needs subject–verb agreement, while “individual focus” and “chemist need” also require plural or singular forms to match their subjects. Several sentences run together without full stops, and the opening contains an incomplete comparison structure (“focus on cooperation than competing”). Practise checking one sentence at a time for a clear subject and verb, then add punctuation before joining ideas with linking words.
