Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate on a topic that, various people believe that competition at work, at school and in everydaylife is beneficial. While others argue that people should be cooperating with each other instead of competing against each other. I firmly believe that cooperating with each other will be more beneficial rather than competing.

On the one hand, various people believe that competing is beneficial in everyday life because of various reasons. The primary reason is competition improves person's performance by motivating them. They develop a habbit of doing things better in their daily life which eventually improves their performance in daily life. For example - prize system in school, children will study harder to gain that first prize in the competition.

On the other hand, people argue that despite having a few potential benefits competition is still predominantly a detremental thing to promote in everyday life. There are some serious effects of competition such as development of jelousy and harsh feelings for others. Furthermore, people stops taking failures as a lesson to improve. Which is why cooperating more, rather than competing is a beneficial habbit which helps people to work in a stable manner. It promotes no insecurity and jeolusy but just harmony between people, that also creates safe and healthy environment for people to grow, learn and work in everyday life.

In conclusion, competition at work and school is more common. However, it's downsides can lead to a serious problems such as insecurity and jelousy and on the other hand, cooperating promotes harmony and safety for growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: “I firmly believe” cooperation is more beneficial. The explanation of competition is relevant, especially the example of school prizes motivating children to study harder. You also identify possible harms, including jealousy and insecurity, and explain that cooperation can create a safer environment. However, the two views are not developed equally: the case for cooperation is explained mainly through broad claims, while the competition example is brief. The conclusion restates your position but does not draw together the reasons in much detail. To strengthen the response, explain how cooperation produces better outcomes in a specific setting, and develop the consequences of competition with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Which is why cooperating more…” is a sentence fragment, and the transition from competition’s effects to cooperation’s benefits could be made more explicit. The conclusion introduces “competition at work and school is more common” without developing this point in the body. Improve progression by linking each claim to its explanation and example, and ensure each paragraph has a clear central point rather than relying mainly on standard linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “motivating,” “predominantly,” “insecurity,” and “harmony,” which allows you to discuss both benefits and drawbacks. Some choices are imprecise or repetitive, however: “various people believe” appears more than once, and “stable manner” does not clearly express the intended benefit of cooperation. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “habbit,” “detremental,” “jelousy,” and “jeolusy,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated wording. Proofreading spelling carefully will also help your vocabulary appear more controlled and make the argument easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast beginning “While others argue…” and the longer explanation of cooperation’s effects. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening uses a comma splice and an incomplete contrast clause: “There is an ongoing debate on a topic that, various people believe…” and “While others argue…” is not a complete sentence. Other examples include “competition improves person's performance,” “people stops,” and “a serious problems,” where articles or subject–verb agreement are inaccurate. The sentence beginning “Which is why…” is also a fragment. Work on complete sentence boundaries, agreement, and articles, while continuing to use varied structures.
