Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern era, competition in any type of work increase too much and world progress to fast with new technology. Many people believe that people do competition in every field like at work,at school and in daily life that is a good thing while others people argue that competing with each other is not a good thing we should need try to cooperate and give favour to each other. In my opinion, competition in daily life is a good thing because through competition progress of work increase and also dedication to do work is also inrease significantly.

So, through competition work result also improve because dedication to do work is increase. E.g., in my school life when i am study in 9th class I have also two of my cousine are also studing with me. I have competition with them to earn more marks in boards exam to improve my reputation in family. So, I do study day night due to competition with cousine. So, through that we study with full dedication that's why competition is a good thing.

Moreover, if we do work in groups without competiting also increase speed of work. That type of things are important when we are working on difficult work that have technicial problems. E.g., in civil engineering complex project we need to work in groups to solve the complex and technicial problems to speed up the work. So, that's why work in group and cooperate with each other to solve problems is a good thing.

In conclusion, i will to agree with to do competition in daily life when we need competition to improve and speedup the work. However, when we need to solve complex problems we to rejoin to make a team and cooperate with each other to solve that problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear, relevant opinion: competition can motivate improvement, while cooperation is useful for solving complex problems. The school example about studying to earn higher marks supports your view, and the civil-engineering example illustrates the value of teamwork. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the benefits of competition receive more explanation, while the case for cooperation is mainly asserted through one brief example. The opening also describes competition as increasing progress without explaining this point in detail. To strengthen the response, explain more fully when competition is beneficial and why cooperation can produce better outcomes, then connect each example explicitly to those reasons. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on competition and cooperation, and a conclusion that restates your position. Examples are placed near the ideas they support, which helps the reader follow the main argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, especially through repeated use of “So” and “that’s why.” Some links also do not clearly show how one point follows from another; for instance, the paragraph on group work begins “Moreover” after discussing competition, although it introduces a contrasting benefit of cooperation. Use clearer contrast markers and vary your linking language. More precise referencing and a clearer distinction between the two sides would make the organisation smoother and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “dedication,” “complex problems,” and “civil engineering.” These terms help make the examples relevant to the question. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “do competition,” “give favour,” and “speed up the work.” Spelling errors, including “technicial,” “cousine,” and “inrease,” also reduce precision. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; for example, use “compete,” “support one another,” and “increase productivity.” More precise vocabulary would help you express the distinction between individual motivation and collaborative problem-solving.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when,” and “that,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction make parts difficult to read. Examples include “competition … increase,” “world progress to fast,” and “I have also two of my cousine are also studing with me.” The conclusion also contains faulty constructions such as “I will to agree” and “we to rejoin.” Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and use complete clauses, especially when combining ideas. For instance, “Competition increases motivation” and “we should form a team” would express your points more clearly. Greater control of these structures would make your argument easier to follow.
