Student answer (Band 6.0)

Opinions diverge greatly among people between the benefits of competition and co-operation. Some people believe that competition at workplaces, schools in daily life is beneficial, while others argue that cooperation should be encouraged among people. This essay will examine both sides. In my view cooperation should be encouraged.

One among the major reasons, is that competition provides comparision which helps us to target and prove our innate abilities in order to proof superiarity. This can benefit us in our exams to score hight than other competitents. Furthermore, It allow us to improve our performance, as we tend to improve in various tasks. For instance, if students at elementary school are compared with maths results among their friends, they might think to improve as to prove themselves superior to other students. This will help them to score good in upcoming maths exam.

On the other hand, co-operation plays substaintial role in improvement of team spirit among the employes and students. It helps them to work in group which increases their cognitive abilities and group discusion skills. These skills are proven to improve persons overall personality. Moreover, when people complete tasks with coopertaion, they might easily complete their herculant task before their deadlines. To clarify this, labours who works in group to complete construction of house tends to do it earlier than those who does it independently. Working in coopertaive environment surpress someones weakness and surpass their ablities. This allows early tast achivemnets.

From my perspective, teachers and managers should try more cooperation despite of motivation to compete among the workers and students. As it provides them to work together on their strengths and weaknesses, which inturns results in high productivity.

In conclusion, competition provides better aspects in daily life at schools and offices as it motivates and helps in achievement of goals. On the opposite side, cooperation gives teamspirit and assisst in early completion of tasks. In my opinion, people should promote cooperation among themselves rather than competing, as it provides good working environmnet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the question and state your position clearly: the introduction and conclusion favour cooperation, while separate body paragraphs discuss competition and cooperation. Relevant examples, such as students comparing maths results and labourers building a house together, help illustrate your points. This meets the task well, and your position remains consistent. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others: the competition paragraph mainly focuses on students, while the task also asks about work and daily life. The claim that cooperation improves “overall personality” is also broad and would benefit from a specific explanation. To strengthen the response further, develop each main point with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a more balanced range of examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, your opinion, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally stay focused, and signposts such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” make the direction of the argument easy to follow. This provides coherent progression, though some linking is mechanical and the separate opinion paragraph partly repeats the introduction and conclusion. Connections between individual claims could also be clearer; for example, the move from team spirit to cognitive abilities is asserted rather than explained. Use referencing and transitions more selectively, and make each paragraph build its central point step by step. This would make the organisation feel more flexible and less dependent on formulaic signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “innate abilities,” “cognitive abilities,” “productivity,” and “team spirit.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “comparision,” “superiarity,” “substaintial,” and “early tast achivemnets.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “provides comparision” and “surpress someones weakness.” The intended meaning is usually recoverable, but the range is not yet controlled consistently. Prioritise accurate spelling and natural word partnerships, and choose simpler wording when unsure; this will make your arguments clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex forms, including conditional sentences such as “if students … are compared … they might think to improve” and clauses introduced by “as” and “which.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the essay. For example, “It allow us” needs subject–verb agreement, while “labours who works … tends” has inconsistent plural agreement. The sentence beginning “As it provides them” is also a fragment, and “which inturns results” has an incorrect verb form. Review agreement and clause boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete main clause. More accurate control of these patterns would improve readability.
