Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely acknowledged that competition versus cooperation has become an increasingly contentinuous issue in contemporary society. While some proponents assert that competition is good for success. I firmly contend that cooperation and teamwork is more beneficial then competition. This essay will critically examine the issue before reaching the balanced conclusion.

To commence with, one compelling justification for competition is that it encourage humans to excel. This is largely attributes to human that work hard to become a successful, get promotions and first positions. As a result, it is reasonable to assert that competition at work or at school creates innovations and productivity which ultimately fosters positive outcomes. For example, companies like apple and samsung compete with each other and try to launch better products.

Another pivotal consideration is cooperation and teamwork. From a broader perspective, this may give rise to significant development in mental well-being and shared success. A pertinent example is Google and Hospitals, where success depends on teamwork because in during COVID-19 scientist work together to make a successful vaccine which clearly underscores the potential impact of this trend.

To recaptulate, although differing viewpoints persist, the prepondarance of evidance supports the view that competition is good for motivation while cooperation should be prioritized, Therfore, adopting this approach appears both pragmatic and beneficial in long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for cooperation: “I firmly contend that cooperation and teamwork is more beneficial.” The competition paragraph gives a relevant reason—motivation to excel—and an example involving Apple and Samsung. However, the discussion is brief and unevenly developed: the cooperation paragraph makes broad claims about “mental well-being and shared success” but does not explain how cooperation produces these outcomes. The vaccine example is relevant, though the reference to Google is not clearly connected to it. Your conclusion recognises a role for both approaches, but the position could be more fully explained. The response is also 32 words below the required minimum, limiting the space available to develop and support your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for competition and cooperation, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “To commence with,” “Another pivotal consideration,” and “To recapitulate.” However, these transitions can feel formulaic, and some connections between ideas are unclear. For example, “Google and Hospitals” is introduced without explaining the relationship between them, and the shift from teamwork to the COVID-19 vaccine example needs a clearer link. The conclusion repeats the contrast rather than drawing together the reasons. More explicit links between each claim, explanation, and example would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “cooperation,” “productivity,” “innovations,” and “shared success.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “a compelling justification” and “a pertinent example.” However, several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision: “contentinuous,” “recaptulate,” “prepondarance,” and “evidance” are misspelled, while “increasingly continuous issue” is not a natural collocation. Some phrases, including “first positions” and “successful vaccine,” are understandable but imprecise in context. Aim for accurate, natural combinations of words and check spelling carefully; this will make your formal vocabulary more convincing without needing to use overly elaborate expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “While some proponents assert that competition is good for success” and a relative clause in “which ultimately fosters positive outcomes.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening “While” clause is a fragment because it is not joined to a main clause. There are also agreement and verb-form problems in “it encourage humans” and “this is largely attributes,” as well as “teamwork is more beneficial” where the compound subject calls for a plural verb. The phrase “because in during COVID-19 scientist work together” contains faulty sentence construction and tense/agreement errors. Review clause completion, subject–verb agreement, and verb forms, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
