Student answer (Band 6.0)

The competition and cooperation is an important part in our life. Some people believe that competition is a good thing at school, work and in life. But some people thought that cooperation is more better than the competition against each other. In my own opinion that both are important role in our life. But cooperate is more beneficial for society.

On the one hand, competition has several advantages. First of all, it motivates us to achieve our goal. When student compete with each other, it improve his knowledge and get better marks in exams. Similarly, in the workplace, if employ has worked seperate from his colleagues, so he may work effectively to receive promotion and rewards. For example, in sport, a player has better performance in match to compete with each other, so he could win the match.

On the other hand, cooperation is essential for the society. It teaches us that we should cooperate with each other, so it create peaceful enviroment. When people cooperate, they can share ideas, solve problems together and achieve common goal. It teach that we should support with each other and work as team. For example, when students cooperate in work and project, so they can share their knowledge and complete rheir project with together effectively.

In my opinion that cooperation is more beneficial than the competition because people can create peaceful enviroment through the cooperation and learn about the team work. While through competition, a person can achieve own goals, improve knowledge and he get every thing through his performance.

In the conclusion, competition can help people to achieve own goal, whereas cooperation can help them to built strong relationship and solve problems together. I believe that both are essential in life, but cooperation should be given greater importance because working together is useful individual as well as society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for cooperation, particularly in the opening and final paragraphs. The discussion of competition includes relevant points about motivation, achievement and workplace rewards, while the cooperation paragraph explains how sharing ideas can help people solve problems. These examples keep the response focused on the task. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others: the claim that working separately helps an employee perform effectively is not clearly connected to competition, and the sports example is brief. The conclusion also repeats the main position rather than extending it. Develop each example with a clearer explanation of how it supports the argument, and make the comparison between the two approaches more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the argument easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help distinguish the perspectives. The ideas within the cooperation paragraph also progress logically from sharing ideas to solving problems and reaching a common goal. To strengthen the organisation further, reduce repeated statements about cooperation being beneficial, especially across the introduction, opinion paragraph and conclusion. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “so” in “so they can share their knowledge,” and “While through competition” does not form a complete contrast. Use more varied, precise links and clearer references between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “promotion,” “rewards,” “peaceful environment” and “common goal.” There are also attempts to express broader concepts such as teamwork and social relationships. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “more better,” “support with each other,” and “complete their project with together” are not natural expressions. Spelling errors such as “seperate,” “enviroment” and “rheir” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural collocations for this topic and check spelling carefully; for example, use “work as a team” and “achieve a shared goal.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “When people cooperate, they can share ideas, solve problems together and achieve common goal.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “When student compete … it improve” needs consistent plural agreement, while “In my own opinion that” and “In my opinion that” are not complete, well-formed introductory clauses. The sentence beginning “Similarly, in the workplace” also has a faulty structure. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and articles when editing. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to read.
